If you have a 200 and you use it for towing with any regularity, the cover over the hitch will make your head want to explode!

on, off, on , off...

Scratched to hell in the back of the truck...

Even worse, My bike rack uses a threaded hitch pin for stability and the ratchet won't fit in with all of the plastic crap. It's like Toyota doesn't want the hitch to be used (Don't get me started on the offset hitch pin plug that nothing reaches)

So I got Mike at Bump-it to fab up this :cheers:

Replaces the plastic crap, looks decent and stays on all the time and I can fit my ratchet in.

Looks good. Does it affect the rear sonar at all?
 
Looks like only two screws holding fab bracket to the hitch. Can't tell from picture if you used any from bottom to hold that together. It looks good and its functional. I don't think it will effect parking sensors as bracket is not directly in front of sensors. OP can chime in confirm that.
 
I've thought of doing something similar with a carbon fiber composite to just expose the receiver as much as possible to facilitate use and finish out the transition to the bumper.

I would have to fabricate a positive model of the desired shape of the inside of the bracket so I could vacuum form the carbon layup. That's my holdup. I don't have a good way to capture the shape. Anybody have the ability to design and fabricate a mold for this?

This is a nice solution you've devised. I am hoping to fully expose the receiver, pin holes and chain hooks and transition the lines following the lines of the bumper. Depending on how secure the mounting is, I also thought of incorporating a flat step surface on the top. One could possibly even incorporate a new location for the light plug.

Following up on an older thread...

For those of you with a bike rack mounted on the rear hitch, I noticed that for example the Thule Vertex uses a pin that locks the stinger/bar of the bike rack in place. I haven't got a chance to take tow hitch cover of my 2009 LX570 yet, but can anyone confirm that the LX570 hitch receiver has a built in hole?

She's anatomically correct down there and can receive any standard 2" accessory. It's just a bit tight to the sides of the hitch pin hole, but should work without issue.

I use my hitch so often, that the cover stays permanently off. Doesn't bother me that her bits are exposed.

Thanks for confirming. I also noticed underneath the bumper, behind rear right passenger wheel, there is a plastic covering what looks an outlet of some kind. Is this power for trailer hook up?

Yes, that's the 7-pin round connector for a trailer.

Hopefully that is the 7-pin. I would open it and check to be sure. As some LX570s coming from the factory didn't have the receiver harness fitted.

Also, some trailers (notably u-haul and other rental gear), only come with a 4-pin cable. You'll want to be ready with a 7-pin to 4-pin adapter, which can be generically found everywhere they sell trailer/hitch/reciever stuff.

My LX came with the adaptor.
 
Why not use the factory cover and cut out a square for the hitch. New cover costs $75. Actually after looking at this post may want to do that myself. Part # for mine

I’m looking at that option and needing to make space for the chains and somehow retain the bottom clips?

Didn't think about chain loops. Just looked at the cover and bottom clips do not overlap those ears. I don't need to thread chains through and just connect hooks. Should be doable with dremel.
