.... there maybe issues with articulation, um ... LOL.... but ..... must...keep...movin'... ON.... Trade-offs. Bottom line objective is to drive off and get RastaRig in my driveway, not located in a town that is 40 minutes each way ... to just drive out to. And, I still have to do something with these springs---they're all flat with no additional leafs and nothing ever been done to put some arc back into them so I'll probably be needing to modify the tailpiece down the road.

this is fantastic, i love this build, best of both worlds in my opinion.

I might have to do something like this myself one day, and the way in which you have documented everything is very helpful. Quite awesome. looking forward to seeing it up and running, cant white to hear that 5.9 roar. Definately put a ton of sound deadening in though. There wasnt enough in my 97 dodge.

Sweet build looking forward to more!
 
this is awesome how much do you think the build has costed you so far? How many hours do you think you have into it? I would love to see the black smoke come out of the cruiser and watch people's eyes just stay and wonder what in the heck is that thing!!!!! Keep up the good work and i will keep watching.
 
Inspired!!!

So impressed I now have a '94 dodge in the yard partially disassembled getting ready to give up to the whims of the Rhasta! My '84 fj will never be the same. Tons of questions but getting answers watching the show. Same kind of budget but try not to cut any "important" corners.

Am I right that you used your stock toy radiator? Any chance of a copy of a motor mount template? I can really see a lot of the same measure, cut, weld, look, cut, weld, look again process ahead.

I will be continously tuned in to the left coast after all this is a redneck backyard build!:beer:
 
Neat stuff! I know it was early in your thread, but what did you do for lower shock mounts on the front well and the rear too ? Thanks
 
dont' know what kind of radiator fan you have...but do you tihnk you will have a problem with the fan slinging dirt and mud all over the air filter? When off-road?

I just did some power mods to my 6BT and can't wait to get it swapped into my truck.

wow, this is an awesome build thread.

i'm contemplating doing something similar for my FJ60 and i'm sure i'll be referring to this thread a LOT.

Stevo ---- been long-hauling back and forth across the country ---- driving big rigs until November. Put it mildly, I roon oot av mula.
Gave up the Beamer and used the money to buy the last bit of vital accessories for makin RastaForte my DD. Drove her out of Georgetown....up and down Hwy49's windy roads up to Auburn and out of town....she made it fine.

I guess now I'll post some updates----and most of all the engine running and so forth. I have some issues no doubt----the rear diff needs to be rotated up to correct the bad angle with the driveline there....at about 75mph I get some terrible grumbling back there.

It IS amazing though. I pop the door open, push start the thing and doesn't matter how cold it is (well, how cold can it really be here in Cali?? Lowest Rasta's seen is 48F) ... .it IMMEDIATELY catches on probably the 1/2 flywheel rotation and ..... HUUUUUUUUUUMS. Solid 6 purr'ing like a Cummins should.

Clessie's book by his son Lyle is excellent by the way. The dude was racing his 6-cylinders back in the Indy 500 in 1931 and shocking quite literally ALL of the racing buff naysayers. And get this-----he was doing between 25mpg and 32 on the Packard he shoehorned the 6 into (Type U cummins diesel I believe).

So Rastaforte + cummings First Gen 6 is just keepin' On the legacy of CLC. If you want inspiration---check the book out sometime, The Diesel Odyssey of Clessie Cummins

Anyway, I'll get a list up here of this years plans and some videos with a good sound. But the truck sits for 20 days when I'm out on the Volvo rig ....and starts up EVERY TIME with absolutely no issues.

I LOVE IT! Now some new leafs, fix the driveline/diff angle, add the front d/l and probably need to address the silly shock mounts at bottom. I'd really like to two-tone this thing by the end of summer, so I'm open to color suggestions. I'm thinking white and the original blue---ya know, sort of an Islander motif.... the question is should the white be on the top or bottom and where should I cut the line at.....
