Exhaust system is looking really nice.
I like how you used the pvc to route it and then worked the metal pipe to match.

Keep it up, get some footage of that motor running too.

A Diversion...

Thanks for the comments guys & I should be posting some updates this week for ya.

In meantime, you might have seen this guy's buildup, if not----amzing!
I was out exploring for some ideas & inspiration and stumbled upon his.

This is really looking great! I hated the exhaust portion of my build. I still have bugs to work out. I like the idea of the PVC pipe though! Very creative.

Though first..... een honor of our Brotha, I must admit I've not been too good at Boots4in' it on the rig....or, alas, on the Forum.
Updates are thin.... and I am just as....

Let the Record show that this Tub be movin' by the 15th...
& registered with Kindly Folks from Dept of Motor Vehicles by Sept 1st....
or I'm not worth the Reefs I jump or the ones I
Roll....

To Roll these loops....
must close over several rig pieces that have been movin'
toward their invevitable conclusion....
though the Clock they go by
laughs at Me....
in my Silly Efforts to bend....

1. Intake/Exhaust: secure final supports for the muffler and rear tailpiece
2. Shifter for Transfer Case: complete modification of adapter plate, assemble and secure; make any floor mods that this requires
3. Clutch: complete adaptor plate to bell housin', secure slave, plumb
4. Cooling System: complete fan installation on AC condenser, mount, coolant/water added
5. Driveline: figure out how eets possible the splined end of the rear prop shaft no longer fits the sleeved yoke after just cutting the shaft to length & reassembling. Ya know some things a Man just cannot do----like take 8 steps forward to only go back 11
6. Fuel & *throttle* System: Verify idling good for 15 minutes with no issues - solid oil pressure, good temps, no muffler noises, no issues with IP or its timing/too much smoke/yadayadayada; fab and install the bell crank attaching stock *gas* pedal to IP
7. Steering: COMPLETED - swapped in grey one - wouldn't mate correctly to shaft from PS-pump - gave up and put back the original brown one. Again, 3 steps forward....
8. Electrical - Complete charging circuit, connect fan to manual switch in cab
9. Driving Issues: Bolts there/in, good & tight, grounds to chassis/body good, lights working, axles aligned and perch/springs hardware tight, fluids in, etc, etc, etc
10. B.A.R / D.M.V: issues resolved and rig REGISTERED. Bye, bye smoggin.......

And there... this Lantern lights upon ma Path to Go....

The next Phase for RastaRig must be more inspired than
*jooost*
movin' it.
HAHAHAHAHAHA....
What's havin' Power if I can't crawl ova Rocks with

Took about 2 hours to get it all freed of air and
this is within minutes after the last bit of fuel spewing out of Cylinder 3 & 4 for bleeding @ Injectors. This is first short run:

Shortly after, not sure if the Injection Pump even could rev:

You are one trippy dude:lol:

Good work.

Momma always said I was ... different......

Appreciate the encouragement gents.....really do.

So bringin' us current from the last 6-7 weeks... we turn to the intake and exhaust portion of Rehab for Rasta.... I've got so many things going right now that I'll be out, er, *character*.... I'm trying to nail some updates here to bring the thread up-to-date... so things will be brief

Had picked up off of Craiglist for $60 a muffler and exhaust pieces back to tailpipe. No luck on the downpipe but at that point & really no matter as I ended up doing that by hand too. The Pipe....

Last piece on I posted about was at this stage:
Q1A.webp

...which when welded and the last piece added to mate with muffler became this:
Q1B.webp

And so we start by having to make these pieces I'm calling P1 and P2A on this drawing:

Exhaust & Intake Updates

Exhaust has got to be the most interesting----and frustrating----pieces to do... If you get into it you can kind of enjoy making things work, makin' it snake around obstacles---taking what you have and making it just work. But as I looked at the pieces I got from the seller for the exhaust, I realized this stuff wasn't going to allow me to cut with a tube cutter which was ( my preference at this point for the clean cut, exact location and QUIET)

So I ended up just throwing up the muffler---not the prettiest thing but I thought that with it being so large, I should nail it's location down first and then bring all the pipes up to it. The rest of the squished/box sort of exhaust pipe off of the Dodge truck would just become scrap.....

Q3A.webp

Q3B.webp

Now just needed to connect the piece I had already made last update (P2A) that connected with the downtube and swept along the rail and jogging around the first half of transfer case rear. From there needed a really bizarre "S" shaped piece (P2B in drawing) that would land to inlet of muffler. Then the tailpiece could be done... also as the weekend ended the last time exhaust work was done, I ran out of mandrel bends. I had originally bought only (2) 180 U-bends and realized I would need more. I suppose I got carried away with the bending and twisting thing.

Exhaust & Intake Updates

Now the muffler that I mocked up there with coat hangers to just hold up before discovering string..... had to be switched around 180. My research found me concluding that the baffles in side should be oriented "swept back" rather than "scooping up" incoming exhaust gases from engine. The WRONG way:

Q5.webp

What I learned is that both ways seem to OK, but typically you install with the baffles swept back----less back pressure (I'm conjecturing) and less noise in cab. Switched around to *correct* orientation (looking to rear):

Q6.webp

Few weeks later the mandrel bends came in----found these online guys to be have some great pricing for aluminized steel 180's----$12.95. I knew I needed some hanging hardware so ordering that too... I wasn't worried about a little bit on shipping (Results for Mandrel Bends:Aluminized Steel:U-Bend)

Exhaust & Intake Updates

That same week the mandrel bent U-pipe came in, I was able to snag a pair of electric fans out of a Mercedes at a local PickNPull....you can also see in the pic the hydraulic braided line I'm going to use to connect the clutch master to the, um, F-----ro slave cylinder. And the dreaded threaded rod with ends from McMaster. I'll be using it to make the *throttle*/Pedal linkage to IP:

Q7B.webp

The hanger hardware came in as well----the prices were great (MandrelBendingSolutions again). I can't believe the car parts stores sell this stuff for $6-8 a piece..... I paid $2.50 on avg for rubber insulators and hangers weren't that much more.

Q8.webp

The PVC pipes/bends really made the the "S" shaped section of exhaust really easy----I also discovered that matching the cuts to metal became humorously simple once I marked the PVC pieces so I could rotate the sections to "flat" and then bring them back to the desired shape..... turns out once I modeled it with the plastic, marked the plastic I could flatten it and then use that flattened version to lay the metal up against. Even so, that last piece I could not make the tight bends necessary to nail my destination align perfectly with muffler inlet. At this point I was about 1/2 in off and just figured now that I knew the muffler pretty much fit and was up and snug as high as I was comfortable with----I could move the muffler front up and over slightly to match.

With exhaust piece P2A up and hung with string and muffler waiting.....I cut up stock for the "S" piece (P2B) and got it where I wanted its sections to be ...
