yep, FS 513 is a little bit north of where we're going, at least for the morning route we have planned. I doubt the kids will be up for an afternoon of winching after 50 miles off pavement, but you never know. The expo portal write-up is good, although they need to spend some more time in rural AL if those statues and storm shelters are new to them. I'm excited about all the FS map data Clarence and I have been able to find. There should be several good weekends worth of exploring out there this spring.

edit: just noticed that our other thread was referenced in his writeup. that's a nice rover, one of the guys I went to forestry school with had one like that.

this is probably the average condition of it, some is smoother and some of it is rougher:

from 600-2

600-2 is definitely rougher than 1, it was pretty much like this the whole time. I don't think I had to use 4wd, but I was in low range most of the time.

Awesome!

had it not been a busy weekend, i woulda come up in the Catfish, it's 2WD but nothing a little tug coulda got me out of if needed...

you would have been fine on the motorway - no way you would get stuck, the WMA may have been a different story. With the aussie up front it is hard for me to gauge how tough something is, but I usually ride in 2wd and switch to 4 if I think I need to. Once in the WMA on a flat trail the mud was slicker than I thought and I slid off and had to use 4 to get going - a tug would have gotten you out there. The other time was going up Rebecca mtn. The road up reminded me of a red clay power line road - steep and muddy. my 4wd popped out halfway up and I just started moving backwards, even with the rear locker. backed up, pulled 4wd and held the lever, and drove right up. If it was dry I don't think there would be anything that requires 4wd. I don't know if the other trucks had to lock up or not, I wouldn't think so.

edit: I am pretty sure posts 29 and 30 are of the climb at the WMA.

I am looking for something to do the weekend after Aweburn.

did yall do this trail in a day? Is it possible to make it a 2 day trip? Camping?
