Was thinking I should buy a DA polisher and try to get the pinstripes out. @tbisaacs did this a last year and I could see the shine reflections over at my house it looked so good.

Unfortunately it's like $200+ to get a polisher and pads.

Then I remembered I bought a Festool sander / HEPA vacuum to do some lead remediation when we moved into the house. This was better as far as airborne particles than the spray and scrape method, so I got one and paid a contractor to remediate. It sees a little use as a sander in my very hobby woodshop, but it mostly just takes up floor space.

Turns out this Rotex 150 can indeed do RO and Polish. It's a 6" tool.

So I pinched my nose and paid $50 for the Festool polish backer, and bought some pads.

Fingers crossed!

Now I just need a few cutting and polishing products - - so many choices . . . .

I need to give my truck some TLC now that the sun is back. I'd be happy to loan my DA polisher out if your solution doesn't work. I was really happy with the "kit" from chemical guys - came with 3 compounds and 2 levels of polish + 5 pads. I ended up only using the most aggressive compound and lightest grit polish. Worked great.

If you just want a once over - highly recommend their "VSS" stuff - it's 1 step compound and polish.

Add a microfiber pad and some wax and you're all set.

Well, at least Festool makes some excellent tools. Your grandkids will be polishing their Jetson cars with it.

One step sounds like the ticket. Great idea! Decided on the 3d One scratch and swirl. That plus the griots ceramic 3 and 1 wax and it should be so shiny trees will step out of the way in fear of scratching it back up.

or something like that.

Added a 12" battery chainsaw to the mix. Had a limb down at home, so took the opportunity. It's bigger than i wanted, and drinks chain oil, but works a treat. Go about 25 6" average cuts (9" to 4" range) and still had 1/3rd battery. Will strap to roof no problem, and should come in handy for camp fire wood duty, and trail clearing.

Got the BD version, as that's the walled battery system I'm in for garden tools.

Harbor freight?

Sorry black and decker is BD. It’s probably HF quality at this point. I don’t live near a HF, so don’t frequent it often.
Price was competitive, and got another battery with it that also works in my trimmer and leaf blower. I’m getting to standardize the batteries to two manufacturers. hitachi/metabo and BD

I thought about getting a small chainsaw to carry around as well as opposed to a machete for cutting wood, but mainly I wanted it in case I need to remove some obstacles/squeeze into somewhere. Now that grinchy thinks it’s worthy I’m moving forward with the idea. Hopefully dewalt has a good one.

I’m sure they do. I mainly got it for around home, the fact I can take it up to the woods is a nice bonus. We have three large (100 ft) pine trees. So there is yearly limb work to deal with.

Detailing has so many different products. I've now added an Iron remover (adams) and Eraser (carpro) and half a gross of microfiber towels.

Thoughts on this workflow?
Dishwasher soap wash
Clay bar with detailer spray (Meguiars)
Iron Remover
Water Rinse
Scratch and Swirl (medium pad on flanks and other contact area)
Scratch and Swirl (finish pad, full car)
Eraser
Griots 3 in 1 Ceramic (two coats)
Profit

Is Dishwasher soap safe in this instance because you are adding effectively a new protective coat? Versus other auto soaps that are less caustic and seem to remove surface grime and add a bit more wax?
I am assuredly no expert here, but I guess since I will be power buffing the entire car a good aggressive soap will make sure I don’t rub in unintended stuff.
Also it is what I have on hand.

What is the purpose of the iron remover?

I really should take better care of my finish. I thought about it, but like you, I just found all the various products overwhelming.

Cuts all of the heavy metals that stick to your paint. Brake dust etc

Moss removal! Probably only a concern in the PNW . . .

I wash once a year, so this year i'm trying to make it count.

Ahh. So pretty much like it sounds.

So you guys are all sitting around looking like Stephen King in Creepshow 😂

I guess I’ll find out. We are about to head your way in a few minutes. We are staying near Grants Pass tonight and rolling in to Shelton tomorrow afternoon. We are going to see if we can hit some wineries to pick up some provisions on the way.

And I normally pay a service for a full detail once a year. I haven’t done it but I did do a full interior detail yesterday for the trip.

I need to address my pinstripes at some point though.

fridge sliders came in. They sent me two rights. Argh!

what did you buy? There's usually no left/right specific slide.
I just ordered a pair of locking slides from ovis and i dont think they are L/R either...
