I had my winch burn the motor at Tellico (OTMT) and tore into it this week (the Warn M12000 is fully rebuildable
). The motor itself was looking good, but as I took it apart I noticed that the brushes, stator, etc are ALL packed into the motor housing with a nice coffin of Gulches silt.
I really really hate that stuff!
New motor is on the way. My winch was only working because the motor was strong enough to break free of the rust that was binding it and then pulverizing this silt while running. Poor thing never had a chance!
The upside is I completely rebuilt, cleaned, and lubed the entire winch so when my replacement motor comes it should be as good as new!
