How do you get that damn thing out of there? The shackle end is no problem but the hard mount end is not cooperating a bit.

I've been searching on here for over an hour and can't find any info.

It's a stock FJ62 with broken springs. Trying to put in new ones and these damn bolts are giving me a fit.

any help? thanks

Heat was the key for me when I replaced the springs. Get a propane torch and heat the bolt for about 5 minutes, then beat on it with a hammer, repeat.

That's where I was going next. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't some clever little trick to popping them out.

What's relaly making this fun is this particular truck spent a lot of time running the beaches of NC....lots-o-rust to deal with.

Thanks for the heads up.

Assuming you've removed the small bolt that holds the pin on the flange side -

You have to torch the bushing until it starts to melt, until you see molten bits of plastic dripping - The pin kind of "fuses" in there over time, so sometimes that is the only way. Then you can knock it out.

Heat it and beat it... remove the securing bolt and nut first.

Have some new ones ready to go in for reassembly.

Liberal application of a 4lb sledge helps.

Mine had to be cut out. Then I pounded the remains of the pin out of the plate. I then drilled it to 3/4" and welded in a grade 8 bolt. Then I drilled the other side, the small hole, to 3/4" also and used a nylock nut. Been that way for 13 years.

Ended up with a combination of heat and beat (liberally) and cutting and grinding and drilling and welding. Man what a pain in the ass. I'd rather have my back broke laying in hell before I tackle that again.

Yup - even after I learned the "secret" on how to get 'em out, it took a couple of days and lots of cursing.

Glad you got it done.

i did the heat and beat repeat approach on the first one.

then i got wise and did the heat and wait till the bushing is gone approach on all the others, 1 smack and it flies out in flames after some time and alot of heat.
