Hi Guys,
still looking for the right rig...
unfortunately I couldn't find something that is well built so I decided to buy a clean one and build it by myself.
so, the first thing I have told myself is that it has to come with the factory lockers for the front and rear.
however...I'm hearing from dealers that all the other 80 series that come without the factory lockers also have the center diffrential that locks boths axels. both in 80 and LX 450.
and basically evry time that you put the car in low it will automatically will lock the center diffrential which will lock the front and real axels.
is this true?
does all the 80 series/ LX 450 comes with the center locking?
if yes then why is it so critical to have also the front and rear lockers?
I'm very confused...
thanks
Ofer

When you put it in low is locks just the center dif. u can also get a button to lock it in high. Center locked sends power to both front and rear axle evenly.
Front and rear lockers send power to DS and PS wheels evenly for their respective axle. The LX and LC are basically the same truck, so yes the difs work the same in both.
See not locked front end spin.

Thanks for the fast replay!
so, if I understand correctly, when I put it low, it automatically locks the both diffrentials.
is that the case for LX as well?
so why do I need the front and rear locking buttom? what's is value?

Howdy! The Center Diff Lock has NO effect on the front and/or rear differential. It ONLY locks up the diff that is inside of the transfer case. This center diff is required as this vehicle is an All Wheel Drive, also known as Full Time Four Wheel Drive. I am pretty sure that all 93 - 97 80 series have the Center diff lock. The Front and Rear axle lockers are the option that you are looking for. If you plan on wheeling it very much, you will likely want lockers eventually. Probably cheaper to find a rig with them that it is to add them later. When all three lockers are engaged, all 4 tires are locked together. Basically means NO tires can spin unless they all spin together. John

Inkpot beat me to it... carry on

I will look for it...

chances are, if you dont know what/how lockers work, you dont need them. if i were you, id find the one in best mechanical/body shape, with good service history. and if it has lockers, bonus. if not, dont pass it up.

take it out and have fun with it. you may or may not realize that it does everything you want. if the need arises, you can always get arb's put in. but since you're in there, you might as well put new gears in. why? because you're going to want to put on some 35s or be like the cool kids and put 37s on. and if you're needing tires that big...you better have some good armor like sliders, front and rear bumpers..and total underbody skidplating... and then you'll need a winch. well because you dont want to be stuck...and then..and then..and then.

see how easy the addiction can get you into massive debt? :D

Where is the best place to find the factory OEM center diff switch? Here in the classifieds or does someone have another source?

Hijak over.

Good luck in your search. I got lucky and found the right truck close and quick.

The center diff basically puts equal power to the front and rear wheels, if unlocked and you start climbing up a hill and you start slipping, the front tires will spin faster than the rear or vise versa, all 80's and lx's came with the center diff lock
