Happy Birthday Gary!

Fun with the 40

In one weeks time. Climbed a wood pile, had a fire, and pulled my 275' well. Also went wheeling in Lewiston, ME but no pictures.

Interesting use of a camera :meh:

What's with the gas price increase?

I calculated that I'll save $3850 in gas next year by buying a Prius so I got one. Not thrilled about it but financially it makes sense. Gas prices will suck forever

true gas will never go down, ive heard the batteries add up quite a bit cost wise with the priuses though? You heard anything bout this?

This is for 2010 Prius battery warranty.
15-year/150,000-mile Hybrid-related Component Coverage (applicable states are: CA, MA, NY, NJ, VT, CT, ME, NM and RI) with the exception of the hybrid battery. The hybrid battery is warranted for 10 years/150,000 miles.

We looked at those as well as the the TDI Jetta. 20k+ miles a year in the V8 4Runner was a lot more palatable when we had 2 full time incomes. I haven't found anything I like enough to pull the trigger though.

I did cancel my cable tv though, that's almost 2 fill ups a month right there. :D

My Prius has 161,000 miles and love it. I drive 50 miles a day commuting to work and average 55 MPG in the summer and 47 MPG in the winter. Only issue is a freon leak from some tubing. Refuse to fix it for only a couple days a year needing A/C. Otherwise no issues with the battery or anything else. I think a replacement battery may be around $2300, but many on the boards dont need to replace until 230k to 250k. Car does great in the winter due to the distribution of weight.... engine front, battery rear. Dealer can plug into each battery module and assess its health if there is a concern.

Next car will be full electric. I need to carbon offset for the rest of my fleet.

I really wanted a TDI VW but the reliability aspect was horrible.

I've heard the batteries are $3500 to replace but I've talked with people who made it over 200k without getting a new battery. Either way if I need to do a battery 5 years from now I'll still be way ahead of the game from gas savings

The Prius deal was too good to pass up. They paid off my trade which was upside-down (free and clear, not tacking the $$ difference on my loan) 2007 certified used Prius for under $15k fully loaded with leather, nav and backup camera, 48,000 miles on it, 2.9% financing, 100k mi warranty, etc. Essentially my payment is going up $30 per month and my gasoline bill is going way, way down. it was impossible to pass up.

I have zero interest in the environment. This was strictly mpg vs dollars savings. It could have been a pink go-cart and I would have bought it. I calculate I'll be driving around 125 miles per day on average
