The Cursed Build

Thanks for the offer but I'll have to decline. With my 2.5" it’s the heavy duty lift since I have a 600 pound flatbed on the back and I use it for hauling sometimes up to 700 pounds. I do have some stock height rear springs from an 88 though.
Thanks for your offer! We will see when I start work on the on my lift! Enjoy following build on your truck. Nice job!

Well some changes and work will be done to this truck in the next 6-8 months, it'll be getting A/C, new head from EngnBldr along with a new Cam from him as well, gasket kit from toyota, High Steer from MC or all pro depending on who has it in stock, and Seats redone finally. These things are all being done so I can make this extremely reliable for long distance driving. But first a question, I'm looking at the heads EngnBldr has and i'm debating between the stock head with new springs, valves, ect or their head with the O/S (Over sized) valaves. Are the O/S valves really worth the extra $100 when the head isn't ported or polished?

@KLF do you by chance have an V6 Calipers? or anyone else for that matter. Looking at doing front brake upgrade.

Spares? No sorry. They're not that expensive loaded from NAPA.

@Toast Either this weekend or the next I'll be doing the A/C install. I'll either be using parts from the 88 to do it or the 89.

I will, I'll make sure to take plenty of pictures as well since my hands shouldn't be covered in grease and other crap.

Ordered a new A/C dryer filter, should be here Friday. I also got my grill pulled since I'm replacing it and have the new grill all painted up. I'll post pictures when it’s finished drying

Need 'muds opinion. I have two 22re's one in my truck and the other with a blow head gasket. I was thinking of just replacing the head gasket on the one in my 84 since it runs pretty darn well. But then I got to thinking and I'm wondering, would it be better for me to rebuild the one with a blow HG, with new rods bearings front and rear main wter pump timing chain pistons and rigs and a new head? Or would you guys just redo the head gasket on my running one an not got for a full rebuild?

That really depends on quite a few factors. But, depending on the mileage, I would get the head surfaced and just replace the head gasket and replace most everything from the timing chain forward (chain, tensioner, guides, water pump, oil pump). That also assumes that when you pull the head off, the bores look good. Like I said it depends...

The one I'm running now can do 75 all day long down the high way and doesn't burn oil at all. Which is why I was leaning towards a head gasket, and its only for 220k on it. And I would do a new oil pump and water pump. The timing chain doesn't even have 10k miles on it so I'm good there.

Do both. Replace the head gasket in your current engine and only that and slowly build up a perfect 22re in the meantime. You can both drive your rig and build your ideal engine. That's what I would do...

Supercharged 22re...Toast you've got my mind turning now

Started the A/C install tonight, it went fairly smoothly.

Step 1: pull out the whole dash so you just have the metal beam and the heater core and blower

I laid all the parts out in close to the same order I removed them, even the vent tubes.

Next I undid the 4 bolts on the drivers side, and two bolts on the passenger side to remove the metal bar, you also need to undo the 2 bolts holding the e-brake on the metal bar, all the heater tubes attachted and the steering wheel. Also there's an annoying little spring on the under side that you don't want to forget!

After removing the bar you'll be left with the wiring harness and the heater core/blower motor. I removed the heater core box first, make sure to undo the two outside hoses!!!

Then I removed the blower motor, there's screws at the bottom of both of these so make sure to get those out as well, and it works better to split them into the three parts over trying to remove them as a single unit

Next, I pulled off the heat covering, those metal tabs just fold back
IMG_20160129_174151973.webp

Then installed the A/C compressor, make sure it fits!!! With my truck I've got the blower from the 88, A/C box from the 89 and heater core from the 88 as well. The 89 lines don't work with the 88 fittings, but the 88 compressor was to long for the mount I have (I honestly don't believe its for a 22RE)

Next I removed the front bumper, grill and headlight.

I then made the hole for the A/C lines bigger using a jig saw, not the best way but it worked
IMG_20160129_190332051_HDR.webp

Then drill the holes to mount the A/C condensor. They're probably already there but with me having rolled this truck the drivers side is messed up causing me to have tomove it to the right side of the truck.

There's the lines running through. I don't like how close the left one is so I'll remove it tomorrow and fix it.

I then drilled out the two little dots on the fire wall to make it easier when I went in with the hole saw. Which I believe is a 3/4 and 1". I cut with a 1 3/4 which was to big. I just cut the other one with the jig saw...it looks like sh*t

I then reinstalled the blower, A/C and heater core units after blowing them out. I suggest putting them in this way as it is easiest and don't be scared to force it if it needs it.
IMG_20160129_202032492_HDR.webp

I did have to drill another mounting hole in the plasic of the 89 A/C unit to get it to mount up. You could probably get away without doing it but I did it just to be safe

Here's my lines going through the wall
IMG_20160129_202935286.webp

I don't like how that line is being ran, but I'll fix it soon.

I'm not done yet as I need to do some wiring, but I did empty the system as I'm converting to R134A. I bought a new dryer filter as well and that's installed. I also need to install all new O rings as my local napa closed before I could get down there. This really isn't that hard of a job to do. Just time consuming is all. I spent 6 hours tonight and am still not done yet.

Well my plan changed. Tomorrow I'm going to swap the 84 blower and heater core back in since I know they work really well so I don't get it all back together and find out I don't have heat or a blower
