I know, I'm just remembering my first gen. '84 is so close though! Buggy is on the back burner for a bit. Need to start a thread on it

@SimplyTanner are the heads you've got stock or do some have cams in them?

All but one has a cam/rocker arm/valves/cover

I have both the pear shaped ports and the original two round holes.

Dang that's a lot of heads!

Figured I'd post what I'm running on my IFS hub swap, ifs hubs on my 84 with v6 calipers drilled out to fit a 1/2" bolt with the knuckles drilled out to fit a 1/2" grade 8 bolt as well. I'm running the vented rotors from an 82 Land Cruiser with the holes drilled for the 6 back bolts and ifs hubs from an 89. When I went to put the caliper on I knew I'd have to take off some metal from the caliper mounting ears to get it back to being in the correct spot. I took a guess and took of .2000" of an inch and it is the perfect amount. I also had to grind down the pad where the squealers are (the one closest to the tire). Then I installed 1/4" spacers and took the truck for a test drive. The rims I have still hit the calipers with the 1/4" spacer on but it wasn't by much so i let it work it's self into fitting correctly.

Got a new shifter seat and socket from Marlin yesterday, installed them today and I love it. I'd got with Marlins over Toyota any day. Marlins shifter seat isn't rubber, it's made from Derlin. I also found out why my engine was making so much noise...2 1/2 quarts of oil later and she sounds good again. It's funny how much work I do and I forget to check the oil. I'm also getting rady to pull a new crank shaft pully. I'll see if there's a groove and if so I'll JB weld it or Tig weld it and snad it back down so it's flat.

Called up my local machine shop to ask what the lead time was to get a head decked. They said 7-8 weeks.

Geez, my shop did it in an afternoon. Any more shops where you live?

No more auto machine shops. But I'm trying to find one within a 75 mile drive.

7-8 WEEKS?? That's nuts. Ya last time I had one done it was only a couple of days. Flywheels turned by the end of the day.

Longest wait I've had was a week. Usually 3-5 days. I could practically machine a head from billet in 8 weeks!! Is this a shop you have used before?

I haven't used them because I try to just get things new. But I was amazed when he said 7-8 weeks. I know others use them but I don't have that amount of time for downtime.

I'd say either he's actually that backed up with work, possibly meaning he's THAT good... Or he's testing you and your knowledge to decide how much money he can cheat out of you.

If I didn't love this truck so much I'd sell it. Went wheeling yesterday and had my steering stabilizer come off, the 4 bolts on the passenger side t-case mount strip out and my rear axle started leaking at the differential. Then today when I was fixing the rear axle I spun the tires and found out I have 1 ½ wheel drive. Meaning I need a new differential for the rear. So I’m debating between staying open or going with an E-locker. I know KLF has an E-locker but we’re on complete opposite ends of the U.S.

Whoa whoa whoa... Step back a minute. Explain your diff findings again. I'm assuming you had both wheels off the ground, trans and tcase in neutral. And then what...? You spun one tire by hand and...? Or maybe you rotated the driveline and...?

Had both in netural and up on jack stands. If I turned the drivers wheel or the carrier it'd spin the differential flange. When i spun the passenger side it didn't spin the drivers side or even move when I moved the differential flange by hand. It'd only move every once in a while.

Have you tried holding the driver side still (set that tire on the ground) and the rotating passenger tire or pinion flange?

Not yet but I'll try that today. But considering that the passenger side only moves in certain spots when I move the flange by hand I know something isn't right. And I know its not the axle shaft.

I wonder if it just old gear oil in an old set of spider gears
