So my roommate and I started some work on the FJ, putting together a list of things that need immediate attention. I bought a jack and four jack stands and learned how to use them to get the FJ off the ground. Brandon showed me how to take the tires off and we took the hood off as well. He was very patient with me and working on the FJ gave me a great sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. We have a long way to go, but I've already learned so much. We found some great stuff inside the glove compartment, with documents left over from the original owner, including the Toyota Service Booklet and a detailed account of gas fill ups ( 9 gallons for $3.20). I'm going to see if I can find some infor about the original owner. Looks like he might have worked at the Post Office, as we found some documents related to that as well.
This is just a cursory peak, but here is what I know we need to do:
1) gas pedal does not move, seems stuck
2) new lug nuts for wheels
3) rear and front differentials need the oil changed
4) get the mechanics manual
5) a new battery (the current one was bought in 2004)
6) new spark plugs
7) check clutch, fill with fluid
8) air intake is missing a cover
9) a new gas filter....
Any other suggestions or anything else you can see? I'm going to designate Sundays as my build days, so anyone is welcome to stop by if you would like.
