I think these plastic/fiberglass things just have a limited service life. For $250 a spin you can afford to get 3-5 years out of one and then move on. I use mine for four days every winter (snow trips) and it's made it 7 years, but I don't think it has too many more years in it, maybe 3?

I wonder what the fine print on that warranty reads like?

Ah, the Minister of War and Finance. I know how that goes. Spring Branch area, you?

Close. Briargrove park, just south of City Center.

Decided to make a last minute 'Rona Run to the beach today. First big drive since installing the dissent bumpers, and decided to go big with the cargo box and water tank as well. Happy to say that nothing fell or flew off the rig, and all them bumper bolts stayed tight.

The water tank was money! I went ahead and loosened the schrader valve when I filled it up so there wouldn't be any sloshing. The water was warm, and I was able to wash all the sand off the little people.

I Didn't even feel the 100lbs of water up top, and I should also mention that there were no significant signs of having bumpers/water/full cargo box on the rig. I will say that comfort mode is a wee bit bouncier, though.

I keep waiting on the dreaded re-gear, but maybe skids and sliders will break the camel's back. That being said, an awning is definitely the next purchase!

Sweet! Can I suggest you consider a rear mounted air point? Would make that air hose run from under hood unnecessary.

I think I may copy this water build. How much run time do you get on the 10 gallons?

Ok, thanks. I guess it’s more of the How far is it to Spokane, five hours discussion. 10 gallon enough for family, how many people would five gallon do? 3.5 gallon? At a reasonable flow and pattern setting?

Hope you have better luck with the box. Mine is absolutely destroyed from 3 years of being loaded heavy + corrugations. 3 of 4 internal mounts have snapped loose and the bottom of the box has stress cracks. I'm moving to either a rugged hard case or soft-sided roof bags.

That’s interesting. Our last Thule lasted a decade of abuse. We’ve had this one for 2 years so far, but it essentially never comes off the truck between March and October, and it shows no signs of wear other than a few scratches where I dropped it.

We haven’t had good experiences with soft sided carriers. Between the UV, road debris, etc, they seem to last about 3 trips before they start to break down.

We have a bunch of Plano sportsman containers which are nice for the money and we have a lot of Wolfpacks which are really great but a little small. the problem with all of these are that they complicate packing and introduce no small amount of wind noise compared to the Thule.

I was considering cutting it shorter after the slosh discussions, but I'm glad i didn't. Maybe we played/tested too much, but it ran dry before i was able to rinse off all the gear. I'll go fill it up and test today....

Here are all the parts I used:
- 10' of 6" pvc pipe: $50
- 2 x 6" Sch 40 End Caps: $40 (Box chains around here only carry up to 4", so I had to go to plumbing supply for the 6")
- large diameter plus 50+ psi needs the stronger pvc glue: $8
- tire valve: $6
- rain barrel spigot Amazon.com : RAINPAL RBS006 Stainless Steel Rain Barrel Spigot(Ball Valve, Quarter Turn) : Garden & Outdoor: $17
- male to male adapter: $10
- coil hose Amazon.com : Plastair SpringHose PUWE625B93-AMZ Light EVA Lead Free Drinking Water Safe Recoil Garden Hose, Blue, 3/8-Inch by 25-Foot : Garden & Outdoor: $18
- foam blocks: $15

6" vs 4" pvc yields more than double the volme at 80"

A friend of mine built a smaller version of this a couple of summers ago, works great. I believe there are several YouTube how to videos on construction, might be able to get additional ideas there. Making one of these has been on my stay at home list (long), just haven’t gotten there yet🤗

Yea, I linked a youtubz video earlier in this thread (maybe page 2?), but they all go too fancy with extra fill ports. I'm okay with only being able to fill it with a water hose and male-to-male adapter.

I finally got someone at Rigid to send me a replacement light bar! Granted, I had to buy it at full price and they said they would refund the full amount once they receive my old one 😂
I'm still out $50 for return shipping, but at least I don't have to roll without one for 3-6 weeks 🤷🏻‍♂️

I also took the time to add up all my mod weights. I was at 6460lbs exactly 1 year ago (only had the bbs and 33")...

Dissent Front: 20lbs (net of ditching crash bar and plastics)
Winch: 77lbs
Dissent Rear: 140lbs
Spare tire: stock 20" 285/55 vs 305/70/18 ? (25 lbs net for now)
LRA 24: 130lbs
Prinsu: 61lbs
4 x Prinsu load panels: 35?
Adapt Light bar: 23 lbs
33"--> 35": 13lbs x 4 = 52lbs
Yakima Cargo Box: 60lbs
2nd Optima Yellow: 44lbs
ARB Twin + tray : 20 + 17lbs = 37

6460 - 180lbs (my weight-ish) = 6280

6280 + mods =
+ (24 x 6.3 lbs gas) = 151 lbs of aux gas
+ family of 6 = 510
= without gear

Are you planning on getting it weighed again?

Also, wouldn't the spare tire more or less be zero-sum with your previous spare (give or take a few pounds)?

Top Hat was next:

Went with a prinsu. Loosely assembled inside, then mounted to rig. No major issues other than lowering the front deflector and rigging up a mount for the monster Adapt.

I got 4 load panels so the kids could sit up top. Not cheap, but significantly strengthen the crossbars! I wouldn't be able to stand on a bar without major flexing.

I took @Taco2Cruiser's advice and used non-hardening form-a-gasket vs RTV and have really been happy with the rack.

I never found proper torque specs into the roof, so I need to check those soon.

Ah, a fellow Houstonian. Rig looks great! Couple quick questions on the rack for you if you please. Is that a 'floor' on the Prinsu? Also, since you installed it, is the cross member running across the sunroof "required" or if say, you didn't need/want it, could that have been omitted? TIA
