So Beer Poker at Pizza Peel in CLT is different than it used to be. Now you just tell them that's what you want and they bring you a craft beer for $2.50. You still don't know what you'll get ahead of time, though, but no more maybe getting a Schlitz. Any day of the week, too.

Strange kind of beer poker.... I like doing it at the saucer because there is almost no chance of getting a cheap nasty beer

Not a micro but damn good and cool commercials!

Saranac Blueberry Blonde Ale

I'm not much for blueberry beers but this one is the least offensive that I've tried. It's also $3.99/6-pk at the 74/Wendover Exxon. The cashier keeps telling me they're gonna have Guinness soon for cheap... Probably gonna be that Black Lager crap.:mad: Sorry for the sideways pic - got my first sleep post-DNC last night and am still too beat to fix the pic.

I'm sampling some great brews over here in San Fran this week.

Started off the first night with one of these. Delicious, hoppy, slightly bitter:

Then had a Pyramid Bubble something or other. A SF pale ale I believe. Went perfectly with dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. at the Fisherman's Wharf:

Today brought a Racer 5 IPA at the Bear's Lair pub on UC-Berkeley campus. Deliciously refreshing, medium-heavy hops, not very bitter.

Wish you'd told me that's where you were going in Cali... my room mate from when I lived in London lives there and is a beer nut... plus about 20 other friends.

Go to the Anchor Steam Brewery...... on a side not it is one of only two styles of beer native to the US.... does anyone know the other one?? A beer for the correct answer

Do we have bubba gumps in NC or anywhere in the lower eastern seabord??? I do miss me some of that :)

I think there is three or four depending on if you're only meaning alcoholic beers...

Steam beer, cream ale, and American Pale Ales originated in America.... but so did root beer.

There's a Bubba Gump's in Gatlinburg and Charleston...

Well you get a beer. You're correct on the first two, in fact anchor steam is the only steam beer left in existance, but American Pale Ale is just a play off of old British Ales and British IPAs.... so while you are correct in saying it originated in America by slightly changing the recipe and added American in front of the Pale Ale it isn't exactly an original recipe nor really native in that sense. It's kind of like saying the American automobile is native to America, yes but the auto didn't originate here.

And root beer lacks most of the essential ingredients.... but back in the day did actually have some alcohol.

Hmm looks like I have a reason to make it out to Charleston finally

I guess I should have brought it up at Logan's Run, but I posted this trip up in the other thread. That's why I had to leave early on Sunday, to catch a plane.

The anchor steam brewery is right in downtown San Fran. I think ill make a trip down there this afternoon! Good suggestion man, thank you :D

Yeah but the cream ale is similar to Kolsch beer where it's top fermented then lagered.. so it's technically a bastardized version of what was then an already established beer...

You can get me a beer at Roth when you come up!

yeah a cream ale is a cross between a lager and a ale but a bit different from a kolsch.

really all beers can fit into two sections an ale or a lager but that is way too broad.
