I have seen this done with a hammer. I would suggest that you remove the pan on the TH350 and see how much room you have in that corner to move the pan in and up. You can get those pans anywhere, so you can afford to experiment a bit. Also, Advance Adapters sell a miniature universal joint. I don't think it will handle a lot of rough and tumble, but might help if you are not into major rock stuff.

i did not cut mine at all. maybe some more pictures might help. its kinda hard to see how much space you have with that shot

downey sold a small diameter yoke to use with that one inch adapter. I believe it was from a 280Z. clearance is not an issue with the longer adapters .

Looks like you have one of the thinner Downey adaptors. You can get a smaller front flange. Then you only have to dimple the pan. That is what I did to fit my t-case.
Good luck Albee

2X on the smaller Spicer flange and yoke. I have one on my 700R4 and have had no problems, though I did need to do a little more than "dimple the pan".

I just rebuilt my th350 - I have the thin downey - hate it ! the small u joint helps a lot.

no pics now, I wil check later.

you have to hammer out more than a dimple - also use a thin headed bolt in that spot.

but whats gets me is after a while the trans fulid leaks into the transfer case

fieldsken1 - whose adaptor did you use ?

A little more help please? Like bigluxs, I have a aquired a tj40 with a th350/v8 swap. The person who owned it ahead of me had a cobbled up mess of a drive shaft that I don't trust. It has the one inch downey adapter.

Several of you mention a small output yoke from a z-car. Not to be stupid, but can you be more specific as to year/model/etc. The auto stores in my area aren't the most helpful as to guessing on parts.

I understand Downey made/sold the flange, but I understand they are out of business. If someone knows differently, set me on the right path to them.

Thanks.
