The prototype of the 03-07 100 series TEQ grille badge is finally off the printer and boxed up. It will be going out to Nick tomorrow morning for test fitting. Hopefully it is real close and will only need a couple minor tweaks to get it dialed in and available to you guys.

Hey bhicks, did we every confirm fitment on a '98 - '02 LX470 grille? I'm not seeing it listed on the website.

Your the first person to ask. I know the LX450 grille is different then the 95-97 Landcruiser grille so the TEQ badges are not interchangable BUT..... the LX450 and LX470 might be since the 80 series and early 100 series use an interchangeable sombrero. Could you take a couple pics of your factory grille with the sombrero installed and with it removed? Maybe try to measure the gap between the holes so I can reference that to my design.

I wanted to give an update on the TEQ badge for the 03-07 100 series grill. It has been a little more tricky then I had anticipated. I have gone through a few prototypes with Nick and hope to have something dialed in perfectly soon. The back curvature has been given me all the issues. I have the height, width, and overall depth perfect but the rear curvature still needs to be dialed in so it will sit flush to the grill but still grab the adhesive properly.

Much better. Good contact with the adhesive. The size looks good based on the first half. Looks like the edges will be good. I think we are close.

Guys please be aware that this is a rough prototype printed at high speed for fitment purposes only. It looks like I need to decrease the curvature in the middle and add a slightly steeper arch at the edges to allow it to sit a little more snug. I will get to work on those changes today. That 1/2 piece was a good idea. I can now clearly see what needs to be changed.

Here is a pic of my thoughts.

Better than the first one but still not making great contact on the edges. I think that it needs to stay flat to allow the adhesive to press then bend into the curve. I took a picture to show you the width of the band for the outer ring of the sombrero. The adhesive through the curvature is still missing the contact.

Another idea would be to make it a little bit larger. That might give it some more adhesive contact area around the edges.

Sorry for the upside down logo. I just threw it up there to get a sense of size.

Wow this TEQ badge is proving to be the hardest one yet. I think at this point I need to get ahold of one of those grilles. I have pulled as many measurements as possible of the emblem. I just can't move any further foward without the actual grill. First peson to ship me one will get a free TEQ badge installed when I ship it back. As a teacher, I have spring break starting in 6 days and can easily crank this project out in a day or two over my vacation IF I have the grille in my hands. If I don't get a taker in the next 48 hours I will have to buy a used on from an online parts dealer or maybe ebay.

The TEQ badge I made is an exact copy is size to the factory sombrero but apparently we want it even bigger to fully cover that flat area the sombrero originally went. I can deinitely make those changes but that is about it before I have an actual grille in my hands.

The edges are laying very nicely in this one. I think making it slightly larger than stock would help by giving it more contact area. Part of the problem also is that we aren't sticking this onto a flat solid piece. The cutouts prevent solid contact with the adhesive as well so there is less margin for error to get a sticky surface in contact with the grill.

Not having any attachment hardware other then adhesive is turning out to be a huge pita. I will ship you one 5% larger and see what we get. If it's still needs changes then I am really going to need a grille. I don't think the TEQ badge for the 03-07 100 is going to be a huge seller so i have to be careful how much I put into this project. At this point I'm getting close to my total possible profit. My guess is that I will sell 15-20 of these total. When I make about $5-7 in profit each; I'm only looking at about $100-130 in total profit on this little project. I have probably spent close to that just in filament, shipping, and machine wear and tear. Those numbers include zero of my actual time working on this. I would at least like to break even on this project and not loose money in the R&D step.

Edit: I forgot to add some info. The last prototype IS the actual finish and setting I will be using for the final product. I wanted to get you at least one prototype in the finished setting so folks knew what the finish on the final version will look like.

It's actually not TEQ. It just looks like it. It's 3 Japanese characters that spell "toyota". It's the old school toyota logo. It's for the toyota purists that want a little old school tribute on their rigs.

The correct Japanese symbols are トヨタ which translates to 'Toyoda' in katakana (before they changed it to Toyota in the late 1930s). Leave it to us 'Merican's to simplify things and just put TEQ to make it easier to read.
