I bought a tent from a closeout site that arrived with a 1/2" hole (clean slice) in the mesh. They've sold out so an exchange isn't possible. The wife likes it, so returning it isn't likely. What's the preferred method for patching this?
Mesh like in "Window/door/mosquito net" ...??

Most of the cheap ones are made of polyester, some of the expensive ones made of Nylon (I have seeing high altitude tents complete destroy specially in high winds (Rip stop fabric is not just fashion) do to a minuscule defect on the fabric, one of the many reason a "Pro tent" can cost a $1000 since you life depend on it, also many people had been save on Avalanches (well if half the mountain those not fall on your head) because the structural integrity of the fabric worked, think crampons, poles, axes, broken tent poles, spiky things (I work with cutting edge tents makers for many years)

Anyway if is Nylon you can "Cauterize it" with a lighter, is difficult to tell with out knowing the type of tent, but the more high performance they are the more the "Mesh" plays a part of the structure (under tension for sure but also shear in some cases)

I will say saw a patch, if possible circular, so is no stress rising points on the mesh, do a tight pattern, since the mesh is mostly holes and make it about 4-5 times the size, that way the load is more spread out..

Then ask them for a partial refund and paint a "Smiley face" on the patch..

Who made it? Commonly good tent manu's will repair tents with slices free of charge. It's just good business..

180 South is the brand. They're no longer in business - they might never have actually opened. Info on them is minimal. I'm gonna call the seller (thatdailydeal.com) but I'm not expecting much since they say they've sold out of all 3 models. Maybe they held some back, so who knows?

It seems to be a very high quality tent. The wife says the 10 included DAC stakes alone are worth $50. DAC poles, too. Whatever that means. I paid $60. No biggie if I have to improvise a repair.

Thanks for all of your replies.

Perfect :)

Btw, that Tent does look nice. It's still for sale all over the place. I might just pick one up!

My google skills must suck, @Mace . All hits I find take me back to the sold out DailyDeal, except for a 4-person at Sportsmansguide for $$. The wife would like to get a couple more for gifts.

I'll try to settle on a patch method this week and pick up some kind of waterproofing spray for the fly - it's a bit tacky on the underside.
