Here's how the previous owner of my FJ40 did it!

@sggoat THIS electric valve is rated up to 265* - it should work.

But, you could also run a hose loop thru the firewall (about a 1" hole) and install a manual valve under or in the dash.

I'm gonna install a brass manual valve under the hood - I don't really need a heater here in Nevada. Even when it's cold out, the engine keeps me warm.

early 40/5's had a shut off valve in the same place as Sekfj40's, my 45lpb has it, I turn it closed each summer. The early ones don;t have the firewall valve(with cable to cab)

I sorta think there was another shut off at the back of the head.

This one looks interesting, but it's normally open-I think that means to keep it closed, it will need 12V applied all the time. I'm kinda like you, living in Fla. don't really need the heater that often. The in-cab manual valve is looking better and better--

The trick to using those is making a nice looking install - don't use common plumbing parts but instead find some of the solid brass hose fittings in the 3/4" pipe x 3/4" barb to adapt to the heater system . You'll have a lot less chance of leaks and the brass won't corrode like steel fittings over time . You could , once assembled , polish the thing before mounting and give it a shot of Eastwood's Diamond clear or similar for a nice finish .
