What after market temp gauge is a good one. I’m gearing up to do a head gasket and would like to add an extra temp gauge beside the stock one. Any info would help. Thank you.

you have the option of a stand alone NOS OEM TOYOTA Parts maker NipponDenso or a YAZAKI 52mm

Cooling system Guages

the YAZAKI even comes with it's own stand alone Sending Unit , Leave it To YAZAKI to think of

everything once again 💥


i personally like the RETRO Flare of the ND NipponDenso persoanlly for a 60

either will fit into a standard Guage Pod you buy aftermarket online for the A pillar for example


Big Question is do you ADD a second independent stand alone sending unit , for the addional

Gauge and the Answer is Heck YES .

Which ever one you like. They all made by the same little Chinese dude. You can get the Bosch sets cheap at autozone/advance. Good time to do oil pressure too.

The Reason i showed you Examples of the YAZAKI and NipponDenso stand alone Gauges , is precisely

because there NOT made in China or any other South East Asia Country , but Rather MADE 100% in

JAPAN ............

IMO, Stay away from cheap China Gauges like mentioned , its some work to install them Right , and you

only want to Do it one time !


Also , your TOP consideration should be staying away from a CHINA type or USA Capillary Tube

type OIL pressure gauge

and Lean HARD on a Sending unit Sensor style OIL type JAPAN Gauge .


The tubes will leak and break sooner rather then later ..............

The problem with the ones above is the fact they are all electrical.

Get a mechanical gauge and call it a day.
SW are made in Mexico now, Autometer I believe are assembled in the US. There are others that are still made in the US. Most others are overseas.
 
NOS temp gauge available, if you are looking for one.
 
If you want to spend the coin for high quality stuff the quages above would be good if you can read Celcius and I dig the retro look. I've never had any problems with the chinese crap. If you get an oil pressure guage don't use the plastic line, get a braided line. Make sure whatever guages use choose are mechanical not electrical. Personally i like them to read all the way around the face, like a clock, its easier to read.

Plastic line works, but is crap as stated, I have this in my 60 now and it is getting replaced the type of line above.

Why mechanical you ask? Simple it is an accurate read all the time.
This summer my factory gauge oil pressure gauge stopped working, nothing like seeing 0 on the needle at 65mph. Looked down at my mechanical gauge and all was well. Pulled over the first chance I could and found the wire had some how dislodged itself from the sensor. The point is the mechanical gauge did not fail. Had it failed though I would have had oil everywhere.

a Copper capulary line if it exist's could be a good alternative , or the other one above mentioned

im not familiar with ?



How ever what I am Familiar with is the OEM plastic Connector's that Fail At the Terminals and the wire

leading up to them as well , on both the STOCK OEM OIL Sender unit , & the one atop the Cylinder

head on a F and 2F as well ........


I have Engineered and Offer OEM-Type Minded Solutions for 3 separate common Failures on a Late

Model 2F as well as a early F


- For The Oil Sender I have 2 diffident kits , a single Wire and the Later Dual Wire Repair Kits

using Period Correct Wire Colors and OEM YAZAKI Connector and Solid Brass Special Positive Grip

Terminal as well EXACTLY as done at PLANT A11 , but i improved upon the design , by bumping

up the wire Gauge 1 size , and using a UV rated Nylon connector housing itself .......

also Chemical Resistant too ...........

Thank you all for the info. I’m going to go with a mechanical one just need to look around. Can anyone show a photo of installed gauge and sending unit I’m a visual learner and that would help me see options.
 
X 2,319,344 for a mechanical gauge to at least compliment your OEM gauge.

Isspro makes very nice gauges including a nice capillary-style mechanical temp gauge. But they aren’t cheap. Pay once, cry once.
 
I know that on the 80s, the Koso temp gauge is popular. I bought one for my 80 but haven't installed yet.
 
The mechanical gauges are more supposedly more accurate, but a bit harder to install. Whatever goes in will be better than the stock unit ...

I've got an Autometer in mine with the sender in the Upper Rad hose. I originally had used a 'Steiger' hose adapter, but it's long and pushed the hose against the PS reservoir. I recently replaced it with one from ebay with a pre-tapped 3/8" NPT that worked perfectly. All the other ones that size (adapter) only came with 1/4" NPT for an electrical sender...
