Hi all. First time posting here.

I just wrapped up a very thorough top end rebuild on my 97 Cruiser and am trying to get my Chinese Mini VCI/Techstream setup to function. I have tried TS version 10, 13, and 15. None of them are able to run on my Toughbook with 1.5GB of RAM running XP. This computer handles the latest version of VCDS without a hiccup, I can't imagine TS is much more complex. When "Connect To Vehicle" is selected, a command prompt appears saying "Program too big to fit in memory".

What is the absolute oldest version of Techstream I can obtain online? I'm only interested in support up to ~2006 so I can clear the Christmas tree of cluster lights on my father's LX470. Anyone here running pre-V10? Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong place...

I have a feeling there is something else going on with my computer. I wish I could find an older version though.

Where are you in Queens?

There are oodles of posts on running Techstream in virtual mode, but it will run on the current Windows version.

Try this:
How to Techstream...

I'm assuming you're referring to a virtual machine. No need. I have XP on my laptop.

I just tried V13 on my souped-up Windows 10 machine again. Still getting "Techstrem execute failure" (no, that's not a typo, they couldn't spell the name of their software). But that's a separate issue. My main goal is to get this running on my XP machine.

At this point my best course of action is to rummage around my attic for another XP machine and see if it exhibits the same issue. What I really wanted to get out of this thread were some system requirements for various releases of TechStream (or Techstrem), but it seems no one has this information.

I tried V13 and then V10 on a newer XP machine with 2GB of RAM and am having the same issue. This is beyond frustrating. It's not a fluke. Both machines are running the latest service pack and are healthy. I still get the "Program too big to fit in memory" when I select "Connect to vehicle".

V13 is from the CD that came with my Mini VCI cable and V10 was downloaded online. Could it be that both programs are corrupted? I guess it's time to try some other Toyota forums because everyone here has a Mac...

UPDATE:

The software CD that came with the VCI cable had corrupted files on it that I was using to "crack" the other versions. I found a download of version 13 online which had a slightly different method of defeating the "activation box" that pops up when you click "Connect to vehicle". It instructs you to copy and paste an executable into the "bin" folder within the Program Files and then create a shortcut to this file on your desktop that you use to launch TIS. It opens both TIS and a tiny window that seems to run some something to defeat the activation box because it gets rid of it after a second. This installation worked on both my Toughbook CF-29 and virtual XP Pro. The Toughbook has some old Centrino processor and 1.5GB of RAM. So there are your system requirements.

Unfortunately, the Mini VCI cable itself was dead so I'm waiting for another one which is hopefully okay. Dealing with cheap Chinese auto diagnostics stuff is never fun.

In other news, my brand new Bosch Premium alternator is almost here for my 97 Cruiser! Very excited to get the hood back on after having the whole thing apart for the last couple of months. Had to weld in new O2 sensor flanges and a new cat converter, but at least I have two brand new manifolds, which unfortunately are already showing signs of discoloration after running for a bit. Intake has all brand new gaskets, I cleaned the injectors on my rig, all new seals everywhere. I just hope the new head gasket holds on. Hopefully it's road trip-ready!

I had no issues running TS on my old Sony TX series on XP other than running very slow

I prefer using my Surface Pro on Win10 though

With the touchscreen, it's like it was made for TS

I know this is an old thread, but I just got a new (to me) GX 470 and have some things I would like to configure using Techstream. I bought a Lenovo T420 to use as a decicated tool for the truck, but it's running windows 7 and I guess it needs XP. I bought the miniVCI cable off ebay and it came with a disk to run Techstream 18. Could not get any of that to work on the T420 due to some .Net framework issues. I also have a couple of Surface Pros. I found the "5 min Techstream" thread on the forum here and used the links to install the necessary files on one of my surface Pro's and I am still not having any luck. If you can help, I'd love some suggestions on how to get this up and running. I have a pretty good scan tool, but it's not going to give me the kind of access I want to make configuration changes (TPMS registration, Key/chip programming, Window open on unlock hold, disable column tilt on key removal, etc.).

Techstream 18 is the latest version? Curious which one am I running on my old XP machine at home. It's just freaking slow and i want to install Techstream on my Windows 10 machine, which is ALSO freaking old by today's standards :bang:
