Post your gold medal techniques on how you managed to get to the rear heater hoses and complete the rear heater bypass.

Laid on your belly, climbed the engine bay, used a topside creeper?

Took my front wheels off and lowered the truck onto wooden blocks under the control arms. Worked like a champ :)

Just used a step stool and some long pliers, new clamps, hoses and long screw driver. There is a video on YouTube that details it. Pretty simple to bypass

To access the top of the rear heater hoses I used two heavy folded moving blankets. Which I laid over the air cleaner housing area. Then I moved my portable bench behind me and put my feet up on that so to support my legs. However it was not too convenient when I discovered that I needed another tool that was still in my roll-away!

To remove the metal lines I used a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel. Sectioned the tubing from above and below and removed all of it. Did not have to lower the transmission in anyway. For a couple of the spots I had to cut.. it was necessary to use a cutoff wheel that was worn down in diameter for clearance sake.

I ended doing this method last night...it was a pain but I discovered new cuss words.

Thanks everyone

I still say pull the hood for anything that involves the top rear or rear of engine block (egr delete or repair, phh, etc). Depending on how stock your engine bay is, I was able to get a foot in and stand on the passenger side frame rail. Other than that, I've tried to read the "good" posts regarding certain jobs but I then go outside and disregard half of the info and end up missing key tools.

I was thinking about removing the air box and hoses so I can stand on the right inner fender but decided to just lay on top of the right fender using long nose pliers.
I didn't know I can contort like that lol

I did mine a bit different than most. Two lengths of straight hose and one 90* bend. Getting to the hose next to the brake booster was painful. Here are a couple pictures:

was this truck underwater? How did it get so rusty

Rust belt my friend, it is real :)

Just finished my rear heater bypass
Its probly not a good idea to hook the heater hoses up opposite factory direction as it may loosen smagma in the core and send it through the system.
You don’t need a $61 90’ hose
I used 5/8” gates no kinks works fine
Its a good idea to use these clamps though they dont seem to flatten the heater core stub outs.
Not sure where to get these clamps, my rig had em on there with stock hoses when I bought it.
