I found 3 clogged injector screens, from bad gas in a rusty tank on the 85. It would start fine then the other cylinders would die out, we tried the easy things first spark, fuel pressure, timing, before we tore into the injectors. We chased all the easy things first because we had tested and cleaned the injectors already a few months before. Must have had some rust in the line and fuel rail so you might clean that up while its that far down. Good luck.

I got it running a couple of hours ago and it was fine again. I will be pulling the injectors very soon to put new o-rings in. I don't like gas leaking down the side of my block and I definitely don't like it not starting on command. I will go through the injectors at that time.

BTW...anyone know how hard it is to pull start a light truck on ice? I have an idea now.

YUP! afraid I do--- actually any vehicle is a pain-in the ass:bang:

Sorry, won't do it again to get video. The weird thing is, even though you are being pulled from the front, it still tries to turn ass end first. We pulled it about 3 blocks with all 4 locked before it started. 2wd just slid and didn't turn the motor at all.

For you auto paint guru's.....I sell paint for a living but it's all architectural. I have never dealt with auto paints so I don't know.....we have had the same thing happen twice and really don't know why this is happening.

The paint just seems to wrinkle in specific places. We didn't do anything different here than we did any place else. The first time it happened on both the aprons and the bib we can only figure that we used mineral spirits to wipe down everything and it had a reaction because EVERY WHERE we sprayed paint it wrinkled and a lot worse than this. Any thoughts?

did you bring it down to bare or bear which ever you prefer:)

if not your paint that you are using the thinner actually is being absorbed through the skin of the old paint as it is not cured through then it swells the green paint underneath vapors off leaving the old paint skin that was cured embedded in you shinny new cover.
one of the reasons "grind n shine" paint shops use a sealer prior to top coat.
there is NO! short cut to proper body work & prep pass-in a top coat is the easy part:)

or the old paint wasn`t adhering to the metal really the same problem piss poor work by previous painter

Thanks Paul. We are not trying to take short cuts, just trying to figure out what went wrong. And we figured it was the mineral spirits. I did not take the entire hood down to bare metal but I did have to bondo several areas (not where the wrinkling is happening). I am going to let this cure for a few weeks and then wet sand the whole truck including the hood, prime the areas that need it and then let 'er rip. Whatever she looks like when we get done is what she looks like. Not trying to win any beauty contests with her. ;)

I agree with Paul, again. Also, I find Omni wax and grease remover much better than mineral spirits.

Also if it was cold outside both times it was sprayed that could have had an effect too. I know I am shooting blind here but just trying to help.

Nah....it's all good. Paul just called me a little bit ago. I was just looking for some reasons why it could have happened so that we could avoid this again. I'm gonna wet sand those areas down to the metal and go from there. :grinpimp:

Under the '85 22re intake is a box that has 2 vacuum lines, a line off the back of the water pump, and a line going up to the throttle body. What the hell does it do and why is in not on my '94 22re?

I'm trying to clean up my bay and I am mixing parts between the 2 engines....I wish I could find all of my newer injectors but too much digging in toyota parts is involved.

BTW, my #4 injector had a cut o-ring. That is fixed now and I did find a few chunks of dirt in the screens.

NVM, it's the hot water valve. I figured it out.

So what does the hot water valve do? This is the Tech section you know  share that knowledge :D

on the paint issue , get a gal of dupont final clean ,think part number 3909s will take all oil and stuff off themetal and or prep coat , it works majic!

I thought I posted this already but I guess I didn't.

The hot water valve sends coolant through the throttle body and increases idle speed at lower temperatures and decreases it as the coolant heats up.

...a little too fancy.
