:deadhorse:Put the trailer with normal load on the truck and measure distance between the truck and the ground. Then have people stand on the bumper until you reach the same measurement as the trailer load. Then add the weight of the people required for measurment. It may be a complex way to reach a result, but I bet you have enough beers :beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer: to get it done. Take pics for a good tech write up.

Another way is if you have a stout bathroom scale (A very stout one) you can put your jack on the scale and get your tongue weight.

On most bumper pull trailers tongue weight is 10-15% of the total weight of the trailer.


Side note on the bathroom scale thing. if you take a 2x4, and a couple bricks you can measure more than the scale can actually hold.

[ I have to apologize for the drawing. I started off goofing around making it intentionally bad to get a laugh out of my co worker, then after that was to lazy to actually turn around a do a real one... should get the job done though. ]


Basically, if the trailer is centered on the 2x4, the weight read on the scale is 1/2 of the tongue weight. if you say had a 4 foot 2x4, and were 1 foot from the brick, and three from the scale, the scale would be reading 1/4 of the tongue weight. so if you have a scale that reads up to 250 pounds you could measure up to a 1000 pound tongue weight.

No, not trailer weight tongue weight, there is a different. I had a bathroom scale, it walk away some were:hmm:

bumper rating not ball

ball rating is base on size 1.7/8 2 2.15/16 and mount shank size.

no bearing on tow rate of vehicle

some here usually at or near the mount hole will be the GW rating of the bumper

well then weigh your truck at the scrapyard (does this thing really censor the crap in scrap? Holy fxxxing s*** it does! ) without the trailer, then again with it, (rear axle only) your added weight on the rear axle is approximately your tongue weight.


seriously though on a tacoma I dont figure you will be putting more than about 600-700 pounds of tongue weight on it anyway since that will get you up to a 5-6 thousand pound trailer and load. a bigger issue to me would be payload capacity if you set it up to be able to handel 1000 pounds or so in the bed (or what ever a taco is rated for) that will get you to what the truck can legally handle. if you need more put some airbags under it so you can keep a nice ride empty/no trailer then air up to level everythign out if you get to sagging.

Does anyone know of a small pump that would be able to suck oil out of the base on a generator?


The generator I bought is in an enclosure, and the instuctions say to just drain the oil into the base, and pull a plug on the enclosure and alow it to drain. I think thats BS, nasty, and a potential fire hazard. I am also considering fabbing up a spout to put the oil drain under the generators enclosure.

another thing making me like that is that the battery has to be removed to get to the standard drain plug.

So what do yall think, A pump to suck the oil out, or drilling a hole in the bottom, and pipeing it out. the only thing making me lean towards the drillin/pipeing option is that I think I could get a more compete change like that. damn thing only takes .6 quarts an oil change.


P.S. And it is So nice and quiet :D
 
u can get a cheap electric fuel pump and use that with a hose depending on how big the opening is are west marine can order ya oil pump made with the small hose to fit down a dip stick , we uses the on some race boats that me a ryan worked on
 
Find a pump don`t drill a hole in it, it might crack on you. I think its made out of cas... lum.... "tin can" how ever you spell it. Don`t drill!!
