...and that's where they're leaking.....just my luck

look at the kit but it will only have the piston seals & dust boots.
don`t think they will have the body seals

Yeah, I've been looking around and that seems to be the case. I might just end up exchanging them for another set from the junkyard or going all out and buying new.

I have seen where people rebuild them by making their own seals and getting the right size o-rings....but I don't know if I want some seals that I made from scrap materials holding back the pressure that is stopping my 4000lb truck.

Ok guys, got my front axle back together but ran into a couple of problems.

1. Installed the bigger calipers but they were leaking so I went back with my old ones until I could rebuild the big ones. However, I think the leaking ones let air into the system because I have no brakes now. I've bled at front and rear brakes, at the proportioning valve in the back, and at all of the master cylinder connections with no luck. The pedal still drops to the floor. If you pump a few times fast, it builds pressure and you can hold the pressure with no leaks. If you let go of the pressure, it's back to pedal to the floor. I am leaving the MC connections cracked in hopes that air will travel up. It's all new brake fluid and I am out of ideas. They were perfect before the axle rebuild.

2. The passenger side knuckle stripped where the caliper attaches. I think I am just going to get a tap and a size larger set of bolts. I put them in with a ratchet and they just kept turning. I think maybe I pulled the threads out when I loosened them to remove the caliper.

Sorry to hear you having trouble. What was your bleeding method and how did you go about it?

Typical. I started out with a vacuum pump which always works for me and had no luck. Then I had the wife pump the brakes as I opened and closed the valve. Then when all of that failed, I had her pump the brakes up until they felt hard and hold it. I then went through all of the connections cracking them open and listening for air. Still no dice. I think I will go back to working on them tomorrow.

Have you ever did the hose and the 1/8'' of brake fluid in the jar trick. It works every time for me. One man job. Don`t forget to check fluid!

Yep, thats where I was going with it Mike. Ryan you should use the brake fluid in a jar method no air can get back in it. Start with the RR, LR, RF, the LF that shoud get it. I've never had it not work using this method.

Yep that method you showed me Larry worked good on the silver truck.

Not familiar with this method...but it seems like you would just put brake fluid in a jar and pump the brakes with a hose in the brake fluid. I'm guessing this would push out air and suck in fluid.....is this right? Do I just keep going until I get no more air?

Your right Ryan, don`t forget check fluid level. Don`t use the old brake fluid that comes out, just leave a little for the next side.

Great. I'll give it a try when the weather lets up.

May need to build a custom shifter consule, thinking of using MDF. Looking for any suggestions for the best result and function.

Dude...

:hmm:bleached TEAK a wood con would look cool !ask Isaac he would agree:D

Make it out cypress wood so you can put two  in it , the carpet got to go!

John do you have a before and after pic..., before the two sticks. I am trying to get a

MDF its easy to form and shape. After you get your final shape done a couple layers of some fiberglass and paint will look next to a factory fit and it'll be drip and moisture resistent. :)

Can I just vote for Diamond plate aluminum? if i WERE TO TACKLE SOMETHIGN LIKE THIS damn caplock... anyway like I was saying. I would just build a box around it that once you cut the holes for the shifters an all would sit level with the base of the transmissions bezel. in the rear have it rounded off for a cupholder behind the twin-sticks for your passenger, then in the area to the left of the shifter you look like you would have room for a cup holder for you, plus a small cubby for a phone or what ever. drew something in paint to show what I was trying to describe but cant upload a BMP on here, and this work computer wont let me save it as anything else.

I was kidding about the Diamond plate thing too.

@Jonathan I am pretty sure he mentioned in his build thread he got a reman transfer-case from marlin, Didnt know it was twin-sticked though :D
