What shaft does the Transfer Case rear seal ride on and seal? Is it sealing the smooth face of the output shaft from the Transfer Case ( from inside the bearing retainer housing)? What does the Parking Brake drum hub butt up to? Does it go into the retainer housing? Does the seal ride on the outer face of the parking brake hub ?

I’m trying to understand how oil gets into the output shaft splines….

The seal rides on the ebrake drum surface. Oil gets onto the splines from gear oil splashing around in the speedo gear housing Mine doesn’t leak down the spline but I’ve read of others putting a blob of silicon on the end of the splines where the washer and nut go on the washer and the silicon seal the spline seepage. I’ve never had spline seepage and never have used Silicon there.
