Love one!

I realize this post is a few years old. Just curious if you got enough people together to get those made. I would totally be interested if this happens to be an ongoing long haul process!

huh. Does not seem a tough nut to crack. Maybe i will consider this kind of thing after i make curtains, which is after i build my sleeping platform.

I dont think that will work with the lower tail gate.

One of the customer supplied photos shows it used with the lower tail gate on a Honda Element. Looks like it would work just fine.

Look a little awkward, cover half the back window, but works. Probably even works better on an '80.

I haven't pursued it any further because I ended up getting the cheaper option that was posted. As far as the door light staying on; I just use a flat screwdriver to push the latching mechanism on the hatch to the closed position, therefore closing the circuit. Only downside to this is I just have to remember to squeeze the handle for the latch to go back to the open position before shutting the hatch on the tailgate.

I bought the DAC and modified it. More info in this thread, mostly on page 2.

I also have an add-on awning to act as a kitchen and living room off the tailgate. That's why I added the skirt portion, to help enclose that area when using the add-on awning. The draped screening under the tailgate in the 3rd pic was my first attempt at that and can still be used in especially insect-ridden zones.

For the lights, I'm thinking of adding a kill switch, just haven't got around to it yet.

I saw this thread and wanted to throw in my $.02

Having seen Mazders canvas rear enclosure got me thinking about doing something similar. Then i saw those SUV tents and was sold. I like the idea of having the kid in the tent and me and the :princess: in the 80 on our drawer/bed setup. You can also use the tent as a dressing room or place to kick off your muddy boots before getting in the rig. It has a 10'x10' footprint and it over 6' high inside.

The entire tent took me 5 minutes to setup by myself and it has a tube enclosure for fitting around the hatch and tailgate area. It was not designed for a dual swingout bumper sporting a 38" spare but i made it work!

Best thing was it was only $129 with shipping from Amazon! It's a TexSport Lodge if anyone is interested.

Here is a pic of it setup; (the tent was being inflated by wind - that's why it appears to be off the ground)

that looks like the set up right there Seth

Guys, regarding door lights, here is my solution. Get a small accessory biner and push it into the upper latch. Clicks right in and you can use it to hang stuff. I throw a candle lantern up there for some light and as a reminder to remove before closing. Just open the handle and it pops right out.

That is sweet. I will be buying one for next yr. for my family.

So is the spare tire in the tent in the pic? Curious how it will work with the carrier. I have a single swing.

Here's mine. It's not really meant to be anything more than a dry room extension but it works well either mounted on the side or the rear of the 80.
