Have a 76 fj40 .. Just interested in some of the things other than the stock tailgate some of you folks have done to your tailgate. I am on a budget but looking for something cheap and effective.
Thanks in advance.

Search is your friend.

My favorite is a guy who made a solid functional tailgate from plywood.

He has inspired me to go woody with some custom doors, tailgate, etc...

Happy searching,

T

I was thinking of making wood half-doors.

ROFL!:D

The purple seats also add to the gheffect.

That being said, those rear 1/2 doors are awesome, and the idea of using factory latches was brilliant.

My intent is to eliminate the tailgate on my 75 altogether. As I'm welding up and stiffening my tub I'm planning to solidly frame in and clos off the opening in the tub. I have already picked up and nice hatch from the back of a 1974.

I believe this will compliment my forward facing rear seat nicely.

A swingout spare carrier from the left and a stock license plate holder on the right side and most won't even notice.

Be Nice it saved a lot of abuse before the bedliner.
No they do not rattle (much).
Yes I have a couple of hundred Pics.

The seats are not purple!! just a nice reflection and faded black. :flipoff2::beer:

I finally try and help the Cruiser community that helped me so much.

Now I am gay.
Some guys just do not play well with others.

Yes I do need to do a build or ROTW thread. :bang:

I hope this helps somebody out. It was not hard just very time consuming. I could not have done the whole project without my buddy. He has all the cool tools. I just have pics of his wife that he wants back.:beer:

Thanks for the info guys. Gives my very unimaginative mind a few ideas to mull over.

Here is what I did to mine. Had to flip it upside down because the mounting holes were rusted on 1 side and only had 1 latch to work on the passenger side. It's roughed out now, still have to clean it up.
