Tail light wiring

Actually you can get running lights, and either brake lights or turn signals but not both.

Would I just wire both yellow and green wires from the trailer harness into the green/white wire on the truck to get a stop signal on the trailer?

The converter is a requirement for trucks/cars that have separate turn signals from brake lights. It blocks the brake light power and allows the turn signal to function from the same bulb filament as the brakes... If you try hooking brake light wires directly to turn signal wires you will have issues.

Or you could rewire the trailer and add additional brake lights. 1 extra wire required and changing out your tail lights to include amber turn signals) or 2 additional amber turn signals with 2wires... But the converter is much easier.

Also it's only the cheap diode based converters that have dimmer trailer lights and no protection from trailer shorts. The one I listed (and other powered converters) have that protection built in.
