man, not even 6 months, more like 2 weeks... sheesh...

(see post 18 :D)

yep, bought my set last week for $15. Well worth the $7.50 each. I may go buy another set.

Just got home with a pair of these. Seem well worth the 7.50 apiece. Gonna toss one in each 80. My 9yo son and I will check them out compared to my two Wolf Eyes older Crees in a half hour or so....

Well, these lights are certainly worth twice the price but they're not putting out 160 lumens in my opinion. My $100 plus Wolf Eyes were rated at 150 lumens and easily outshine these AAA lights. That's to be expected. In addition their beam is full of artifacts and spots.

Having said that, these are a smashing good deal. $7.50 and that even INCLUDES a set of Duracell batteries? What's not to like. If they put out half the light they do they'd still be a good deal. If they still have these when I get back in town I'm going to get another pair. Perfect for tossing in the car or briefcase.

One thing to keep in mind with these light is they have a battery check. That means they are always drawing battery power. For those who just toss them in the car, they may find dead batteries when they go to use the light.

one other thing with these lights, i got my set from the inlaws and proceeded to drop one of them on the floor.... now that one only works half the time. I'm still happy for the price, but they seem to be a bit delicate.

good point.
couldn't you just unscrew the cap, or more convoluted, put a strip of tape to cover the contact?

on a more general side, and except for true tactical issues (as in where is that huge bear...? :D), I think that a wide diffuse beam is generally more useful than the pinpoint spotlight type. Another reason I'm very pleased with my new headlamp (described here elsewhere). The light discussed in the OP did not do much for that, unfortunately, but I suppose a tad of translucent scotch tape may just do the trick...

(well, what can I say, I like tape... :) )

did you drop it from more than 1m? if so, truth in advertising.. :)

i'm 6'5" and was standing when I dropped it... so I'd say that it was probably on the plus side of a meter off the floor beforehand. Im just glad it had 2 in the pack. My old school 3d mag light has been running since the beginning of time, it has road rash, dents and everything... never failed me, but it certainly doesn't put out the light that these new LED's do..

costco lights broke

bought a pair for $15 and one broke. The internal battery holder piece split off of one end. Going to return it. Poor QC but if you can get a pair that works, a good deal.

not good. But at least Costco's return policy rocks!

well, one of my lights is giving me the "low battery" red indicator light and shut off. That was awfully fast! The low voltage cutoff must not be that low. So, I guess it's safe to say that the batteries (AA) lasted one month. Very disappointing indeed. If the low voltage cutoff feature wasn't there, then the batts could've gone longer probably. My other LED light doesn't do this and the batteries (size c) last fairly long time; going on eight months so far.

WTF did you expect for $15: Surefire's? :flipoff2: I like the CR123 batteries. But to be fair witchya I got suckered on the Costco dealio too . We'll see if they make it through the upcoming Utah trip ;)

as said elsewhere, nothing that a bit of scotch tape would not cure, I imagine...

I bought a bunch of Costco LED flashlights and gave them away as presents. One of the lights was DOA before I even left the store. Good thing Costco didn't require the packaging for returns...

well, here also, bought the lights 2 or 3 months ago. One is already dead with very little use -just checking it out a couple of times-. Seems like this battery minder is indeed a battery killer. Not good. I would definitely do the scotch tape trick for long term storage.

One thing that's nice is that the light has sharp enough serrations that I think you could use it as a glass breaker in case of an emergency so even if it's dead it may still save the day... :)

if there's a way to bypass the battery minder, maybe the light can be salvaged. As of now, it's not worth owning IMO. Shame.

might be as simple as snipping a wire.

But there is definitely something quirky about the electrical system. Mine was completely dead, not even the blinking signal. But I put the batteries in a cheapo HF 9LED light I have and it was plenty bright. So the electronics in the Costco one may require a high voltage. Or the Cree LED needs a much higher voltage than other less powerful LEDs.

Mine also ate its batteries after a month of sitting. I chalked it up to the original batts that came with it being old. The new ones have been used more and so far still burning.

keep us posted please. But frankly, I doubt that's the case. Aren't the Duracells and other alkalines supposed to last 5 years or more in storage. Unless of course, those are cheap Chinese fake Duracells... anything is possible out there...
