Receiver Mounted Winches

Anybody using a receiver mounted winch? If you had a 2" receiver under your stock front bumper, then you could winch from the front or rear. Is that not an advantage? Also you could put the system in as you need to use it. Then you wouldn't have that heavy bumper system that looks great, but decreases your mileage even more. Thots?

Wow, barry, if the link is correct, jegs is selling the tmax 12,500 for $659

As an update just wanted to say...In the latest off road adventures mag (4 wheel parts mag) there were two adds for T-max winches, well talked to a rep down in Compton this week and he told me(not sure how accurate this is) that he saw some T-max sales people in a meeting there not to long ago and it sounds like they may begin carrying that brand. We can hope i guess right?

The national rep for T-Max is here in Elkhart. I've talked to the guys and they are totally enthused about their product. Nice warranty, no hassle returns/repairs. They basically told me that they are trying to build market share with low pricing at first, but that they are losing money at these prices. I would expect pricing to increase once their name is better known.

They are actually pretty popular in Idaho. We have a vendor here who really puts them out a good price and a lot of folks bought into them. A couple of things I've noticed. They have a really high amperage draw compared to competitors. Some of the 9000 lb units had a problem with the locking mechanism not fully engaging and they it tears them up. It seems that they are doing a good job of covering these problems under warranty. I think many of these locking problems maybe could have been prevented. It sounds like they were used when not fully engaged and that is what caused the problem. I was close to buying one, but I found a used XD9000i for the same price. Really it is nearly new, used less than 5 minutes total.

I have never ever seen one, but I saw this in one of the other t-max threads going on right now:

and that is a good reference, I think, woody doesn't sound like a guy that babies his gear
