I'm about to weld a nut to my transfer case drain plug on my 91. Will need a new one after. Had this happen with the front diff a little while back and mechanics replaced the plug but even that new one seems stuck now too. In a thread about getting these bolts unstuck, someone recommended getting a hex style replacement bolt with a special washer. Is this a Toyota bolt that I can get at the dealer, and if so, what's the part #? If not, where do I get it? And what is the special washer? I'm looking for 3 of them, one for both diffs and one for the transfer case. I don't want to deal with these weird skinny flat drain bolts anymore.
Get a new one in the 10mm hex style, and a new special crush washer.

Disregard. Looks like it's 90341-18021 for the plug. Still working on "special" crush washer

I used 1215710010. Not sure it's special, but from memory it is what was used in what ever vehicle the hex style drain plugs were used in.

90431-18021 is great. Worked on t case and diff. Went to the dealership to get them (mistake) and they gave me the washers used on the t case and diff (they are, in fact, different.) I have the part #s for them if someone needs but I don't know which is which.

If you grind down the chamfer on a 24mm socket, it works really well for the fill plugs on the diffs and drain/fill on the transfer case.
I have the 10mm allen head drain plugs on both diffs.
The transfer case gets washers 90430-18008
The diffs get 12157-10010

I keep some diff drain plugs handy as they need to get replaced once in a while and they can come loose after being dragged over rocks.

All my 24mm sockets look like this

Just a few words of wisdom to those Mud members who are new to these trucks when working with the old style hex plugs that take a socket to remove, Remove the fill plug FIRST, before you remove the drain plug, The reason for doing it in this order, if you find out that you can't remove the fill plug, after you've went and drained out all your fluid, then you've got no way to refill your axles, or transfer case,

To add onto this sometimes the only thing that will free the old style plug is an impact wrench with a six point impact socket.

I recall struggling with mine when I first got it, trying the longest breaker bar I could find, penetrating oil, etc... A few seconds with an impact and it spun right off.

I'm happy that my factory plugs came out without fuss. I switched to the allen key plugs the first time I changed fluids.

This just potentially shifts removing a stuck fill plug straight to the top of the to do list. ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP!
