I am currently in the process of creating a custom dash toggle panel (similar to 12voltguy) to replace all of the stock pull switches. I am currently trying to figure out how to correctly make the windshield wipers work on some sort of toggle instead of the pull. The cruiser has been sitting for quite some time so my memory is somewhat faded, but I have a 1978 and if I recall correctly it has two speeds on the wipers. Trying to figure out how to place some sort of two-stage toggle in the panel to still use that function. I did look at possibly replacing it completely with the Hella intermittent setup, but since it is mainly a weekend rig, I don’t really see the need for that. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or, if having Off in the center doesn't work well esthetically in your row of toggles, just add a second switch — one for low, one for high.

What happens if both switches are on?
Can be dealt with in several ways, depending on how you like it to look and work. I think if it were me, I'd use a switching relay (one with both 87 and 87a terminals). With both off, no power to relay. With low speed on, power goes through relay to the wiper motor via the normally closed terminal to provide low speed. To get high speed, turn on the second switch in addition to the first which triggers the relay to shift power to the normally open terminal. In this way, both switches need to be on for high speed.

There are other ways to accomplish this too. Relays are your friends. Could be wired so that when the high speed switch is turned on, power to the low speed switch is cut off.

Since taking a break from my 40 project, I really forgot how amazing and helpful the people on this site really are. Thanks to all. Since I will be using a mixture of aircraft cover toggles and some blue LED rockers, I found this and think it will fit the design perfectly.

Believe since it’s DPDT, the wiring should be the same as the youtube link above.

what about the washer function?

A DPDT is basically two SPDT switches, side by side. Switch Basics - learn.sparkfun.com

If you want to use both “poles”, its a bit more complex to wire.

If you only want to use one “pole”, you would wire one side just like for the SPDT.

There are YouTube videos for all this.

@oregon fj mentioned an 87/87a relay... this shows how to wire them.

The stock toggle also has a momentary switch to control the pump. You could use a on/off/momentary 3 position and just wire the high speed as mentioned above. I never noticed that much of a difference between the two speeds anyway

Just remember one thing:
FJ40 wipers switch GROUND, not HOT!!! Same for the washer motor, you GROUND the Blue/Yellow wire to make the washer motor run...
The park function also has to be implemented correctly...:bang:

Looking at the schematic, I don't see how this can be implemented using a relay or toggle switch and make the park function work. Maybe a smart person on here can figure it out.
