switching to 33s?

so my wife wants my 31s on her Heep Grand Cherokee.

the 31s only have about 10K on them. she will need new tires in the next 8 months.

this would give me an excues to get some 33s and some black rock crawler wheels.

i want to save on labor and do all of this myself or better yet maybe get gumby and archie's help if they can lend it?????

the only wheels and tires i have ever switched out is on my mountain bike, so i haven't the slightest idea what i would be doing....don't even know if gumby could help except he has a lift at his shop. so would i be stuck paying to have this professionally done? i have always taken my cars and trucks to shops to have tires replaced and for rotations, balancing and alignments.

here is what i did when i got my 35s...

looked around for the tires i wanted, and also talked to the shop i got them at. they gave free balancing and mounting of any tire you buy from them. im sure plenty of shops do that. so i got my rims first then orderd my tires. when my tires came in at the shop, i brought my rims in and they mounted and balanced them, went home put it on jack stands and mounted the new meats up.

i think lowtide ride has the best idea about it. i'll probably just buy the tires and rims and pay a tire place for the labor to put them on the rims and balance the tires. i'll come home and put them on myself.

hey i am waiting on YOU to do your birfs and help you out! i don't know if i will get to mine before the winter. heck i just changed the oil in the tranny and xfer this past weekend. didn't even get to the diffs, so i still need to do that + do the plugs, valves and timing.

Would recommend having the tires balanced at the same place you buy them. Every once in a while there is a bad(out of round) tire that makes it to the show room floor(stockroom). If the tire was bought at the same place that does the balancing ... you probably will have a lot less hassle on getting a new(replacement) tire.

The last time this happened to me it was with a set of Michelin LTX M/S's. Even great tires have problems. One tire could not be balanced. The shop replaced the tire at their expence. No hassle.

P.S. If you are stuck with a bad tire there is therapy. It's called "Resetting the Belts". It will work but it's last resort.

Most shops will put them on for free if you buy the tires from them and have them mounted and balanced by them. I've been using Discount tire here in the Chicago area for most of my tire purchases. You can also deal with them if you talk to the manager and not the clueless counter guy. They will also order any non-stock items for ya. Free rotations and flat repair for life, even for tires you didn't buy from them if you sweet talk them a bit. I used to work at a service station mounting, balancing, and fixing tires when I was in h.s and would definitely help ya out if you can get access to a mounting machine and balancer.
