I think they just pop out but I'm a bit timid because I don't want to mar the plastic. Am I correct that these pop out? Any suggestions on the best way to pop them out without marring the plastic around the hole?

Yes they just pop out.

getting behind them and squeezing the tabs will get them out easily and no marring. The getting behind part takes some time but not bad. just enough to get a hand behind it and squeeze the blank switch cover backs. There's several screws holding the dash in and then some built in clips under pressure you just pull against. Other than a screw drive it can be done all by hand or with aid of plastic pry tool and some tape.

That section of the dashboard just pulls out directly with no screws holding it in. Grab the left side as shown in your picture and pull. It is being held by a few factory style clips. Once the left side is out you will be able to work towards the steering column and then moving right to where the ignition is located. Maybe 4-6 retaining clips in all.

The left side will have the plugs attached for the side mirror control and the dimmer. You will probably be able to pop the covers out without having to unplug the switches but you can remove that piece entirely if you unplug them.
Hope this helps.

Edit: I just realized that the lower section below will need to be removed first. Four or five phillips screws will need to come out. Then lower that section and the upper section will pop out.

I think Y'all are over thinking it. Just use a plastic pry tool to pop them out :p

You are correct! That worked like a charm. Easy out, easy in. The covers came off with no issue as well. Thanks. Info like this from guys with experience is exactly why I use the site. Merry Christmas. Thanks again.

Yeah you can definitely do it that way, I think he was hoping not to mar the plastic.

Thats the whole point of plastic or nylon interior pry tools.

Utah's way was better. I have pry tools. Nylon. His way is better. It's faster, easier, and less risky.
Sure but after having the dash a part several times I’d much rather not risk breaking clips that I can’t replace.

^^^ This I cringe every time I have to take the dash apart.
