Long time having my bumper with tire carrier in all my cruisers .. and just wanna make them a little better adding the strut / lift ..

I try one from monroe

901480 :: e-Catalog :: MONROE® SHOCKS & STRUTS

and on the first use ( opening ) it broke one of the plastic ends .. guess it just open the tire carrier with to much force and fail to control or slow down at the end of the travel ..

So what are you guys using .. ?

thanks !

D,

Constant speed. # depends on what I have on the arm. I use them as an assist, not a stand alone opening strut. So my # are usually less than others. Take about 60-75% of the arm weight and that is what I base the strut off of.

Tire carriers 50-90#
Ladder 20#
Jerry cans 20-60#

Also, I make a bumper stop for the swing arm prior to the full extension length. This will keep the ends from snapping off when you are on an incline and the arm gets away from you.

J, have you used any of the Lift Support Depot struts? They seem to be good quality like the McMaster but a few bucks cheaper (and I find their site much easier to follow/read).

In the McMaster web what I found for the travel I'm looking for was in the 60 bucks range .. ( only one )

Thanks Jason ..

I have a bumper stop .. but I was expecting the strut to stop the travel before the stop .. they are not made to that ?

My tire carrier it's heavy, plus the heavy 315 toyo OC MT on stock 80 wheels ... but I'm pretty sure here are more heaviest setups ..

D, From my experience if you expect the strut to stop the arm... it will eventually fail every time. That is why I set the stop prior to the runout on the strut.

All of the struts I use are in the 10-25$ range.
