I did the rear sway bar link extension today per euclid/Greg's instructions. I built a little jig to hold them for tack welding. Now I gotta do something for the front.

i just completed a 1200 km road trip with my truck no sway bars , loaded with tools hit speeds above 120 kmh , no problems with out the sway bars just be aware and take it easier in the corners .

Are you guys talking about figuring out a way to do rear extensions?

Here's how I did mine.

Thanks for this Euclid. I had Jim at Solid Rock weld mine for me while doing some other stuff. Did the rear just as described which worked out great.

Wanted to extend front too so Jim fabbed up a front sway bar extension. Pretty cool setup that held up just great on my initial test.

I figure Jim can whip up a set for anyone interested for $50/set. :D

Anybody have an idea as to where I can find a stock sway bar in the first place? Then Ill need to fab up some long extenders as Im SOA.

You're in Seattle try Nix99:
http://www.nix99.com/contact.htm. They're a Toyota recycler. They gave me a reasonable price when I needed a new front axle (when I rebuilt mine last summer I found the housing was mildly bent but enough to cock the inner axle shaft against the oil seal which was the reason it kept leaking). While I was waiting for the axle I was sorely tempted by a complete with wiring twin turbo 2JZ engine they had sitting in the lobby...

I've been meaning to extend my rear bars in a similar fashion for a long time. However my plan is to only weld one end. I'll tap threads into the other end and then run a die down the link so that they thread together. That way the link is somewhat adjustable in length. Knowing me if I welded both ends I'd think of somethat that would make me want to change the length before the welds even cooled :D

After installing CCOT's HFS suspension, I noticed that only the front sway bar extensions came with the kit.

My HJ60 had a rear sway bar also. I had an old extension from my 55 lying around and noticed that it was a bit longer than the one from the 60.

Ordered 2 for a 55 and used them on my 60. The 55 sway bar extensions are 1.5 to 2 inches longer than the 60's. Easy fix for a lift.

Still neck deep in preping for the Moab haul. I had a moment of clarity at the hardware store.

I'm using 2 quick connects on the rear sway bar, just like above. When I disconnect them, I'll pull the link out. I'm going to use a short length of chain with a binner on each end to hold the sway bar up away from rocks.

I use the quick connect pin on the bushing that connects to the frame bracket (see pic @ post 41). I loop a bungee cord through the free end of the link and secure it to the frame aft of the bracket. I find that if I use a spot to secure the bungee cord so it has a long horizontal run compared to the vertical, then up and down movement of the sway bar doesn't cause the bungee to loosen and fall off.

Hey 2MBB,
I'm just across the bay from you in San Rafael, since you have that fancy jig (and a welder) would you be interested in modifying my rear links?
Bryan

all you have to do is add 2-2.5" to the link. though it is a nice jig, it's not needed.
