Hey all,

Has anyone tried swapping out the bulb for their 16+ LX? My understanding is that the unit is an entire sealed assembly so if, for example, the LED went out, you'd have to replace the entire thing.

However, I want to switch to a yellow bulb. I know lamin-x makes a cover for the fogs, but I'd like the actual light output to be yellow if it's possible. I haven't looked underneath to see how it's actually assembled, but based on a few ebay pics of replacement assemblies, it doesn't seem like it's possible to swap out the bulb. Hoping someone was successful though!

Thanks!

I did a little digging in the parts system and it appears you are correct, it only comes as a complete assembly. No bulb to change without disassembling it and likely soldering a new bulb onto the board.

I would think the yellow covers would work fine.

My ARB off road LED's use yellow covers from ARB and they work great.

I did find some diagrams somewhere that seemed to suggest that the bulb could possibly be....a bulb. For example, Lexus LX 570 Fog Light (Left). Electrical, Lamps - 8139060010 | Park Place Lexus Plano, Plano TX - https://parts.parkplacelexusplano.com/p/lexus__LX-570/Fog-Light-Left/66829933/8139060010.html, it looks like the bulb could actually pop out in some way, hence the hope/inspiration for this post. I have always been told that the entire assembly needs to be replaced as well but hoping someone out there was daring enough to try it, haha!

The yellow covers do indeed do just fine. I guess I can't really complain since, to your point, they've worked good enough for me so far, but I do notice that it's more of a white-yellow-ish beam, rather than an actual yellow beam. I've had a yellow film over a yellow bulb in my old Outback and, man, that yellow fog light was deep yellow and I thought it was amazing in low-visibility situations.

Another option is the Baja fog lights which are on a whole different level.

haha I hear you! I'm sure most aftermarket options would be infinitely better, but at least for now, I'd like to maintain the stock look, regardless how ugly it is ;).

Here's actually another diagram of the fog lamp assembly from a JDM spec LX: Fog lamp for Lexus LX570 URJ201W - Genuine parts - Amayama - https://www.amayama.com/en/genuine-catalogs/epc/lexus-japan/lx570/URJ201W/182027/electric/8102. It almost looks like the bulb could theoretically be swapped.

EDIT: and here's the US spec LX FOG LAMP. Lexus LX 570 | Lexus Parts & Accessories Online - https://parts.lexus.com/a/Lexus__LX-570/_52016_6720448/FOG-LAMP/792460-8102.html?assemblySearchGuid=1A064731-005C-4926-B460-49DB1F5E1298. It really looks like it could be a bulb, but pictures I've seen of the assembly on ebay look like it's sealed so I assume there needs to be some cutting of some sort. I've filtered for a 2019 LX, but to be honest, this looks like it could be from the prior-refresh fog lamps. I can't honestly tell from the diagrams.
