For sale is our treasured 1985 FJ-60 Land Cruiser. It has provided many adventures during our 17 years of ownership and 36K trouble-free miles since its comprehensive restoration. My wife and I have reached that age where climbing the ladder to the RTT isn’t as much fun anymore, and we’re realizing its stored more than used. A hard-side trailer is in our future, and the Cruiser needs to find a new owner who will appreciate it!



I’m the third owner, purchased in 2002 with 306K odometer miles. It had a crude but working old V-8 conversion already done, good original body, but was well worn and needed serious restoration. A complete rebuild was performed, returning to the road in 2009. Motor and transmission were upgraded, with everything else either rebuilt or replaced, and with many modifications to make it a reliable overlanding camper.



ROOF RACK ACCESSORIES, ARB ROOFTOP TENT, AWNING AND FREEZER/FRIDGE IN PICS ARE NOT INCLUDED IN PRICE, BUT I WOULD CONSIDER SELLING WITH THE VEHICLE.



Engine:

  • Chevrolet Ramjet 350 port fuel injected motor w/ MEFI IV control
  • Ceramic coated ramshorn manifolds, custom exhaust with Magnaflow catalyst and SS muffler, passed WA state emissions
  • Reverse rotation serpentine belt system, mechanical fan, Ron Davis Racing Al radiator, Remote oil filter
  • Air Conditioning w/ GM compressor, R134A conversion
  • Long Ranger 38-gallon fuel tank with external Bosch electric fuel pump, braided SS fuel lines


Drivetrain:

  • Toyota H55F 5 speed transmission and t/case, TSM t’case cable disc parking brake, Centerforce 2 clutch
  • OME full suspension, medium rear leafs, Nitrocharger shocks, anti-inversion grease-able shackles and pins, poly bushings, OME steering stabilizer
  • Rear ARB Air Locker differential, 3.70:1 axle gears, w/engine-bay mounted ARB compressor, all new bearings, seals
  • Front and Rear axles rebuilt with all new bearings, seals, and hardware, Toyota birfields
  • Four wheel disc brakes; TSM Rear disc conversion, front drilled/vented rotors, 4Runner calipers, braided SS brake lines
  • (5) 285/75/R16 D BFG All-Terrain KO tires on M/T16x8 Classic II wheels, 25% tread, new spare
  • Driveshafts rebalanced, new u-joints
  • MAF U-bolt front and rear flip kits

  • MAF 4Plus steel rear bumper, spare tire, double jerry can swingouts, Hi-Lift Jack mount, 2” receiver and 2 shackle points

  • Dual battery system with Sears Platinum engine, Optima Yellow Top deep cycle house, National Luna dual battery monitor, Stainless Battery trays
  • Blue Sea Automatic Charging Relay (ACR)
  • Cargo area custom wired to run from house battery through marine circuit breaker and separate fuse panel mounted within cab; circuits for radio and 6-12V plugs around cargo area
  • All wiring marine grade wire with crimped/heat sealed connectors, Blue Sea components
  • Hella headlights w/ 55/100w Halogen bulbs, Hella 4000 Eurovision driving lights, Hella fog lights
  • Kenwood AM/FM CD player w/USB, front door speakers, rear removable waterproof marine speakers


Exterior:

  • All original body metal; no major body damage
  • Original Gun Metal Grey 8B4 body paint
  • Chassis cleaned and repainted in 2007
  • Front grill, headlight surrounds painted black, chrome trim deleted
  • Fj-62 remote cable release for locking fuel door


Interior:

  • Front seats replaced with BMW 3-series Recaro buckets; re-upholstered, new springs, Wet Okole neoprene and nylon seat covers
  • New Toyota OEM shoulder belts
  • New Toyota OEM Front door hinges, handles, and locks
  • Tuffy grey security console w/ radio cover
  • Interior and doors all completely stripped, original insulation removed and replaced with new insulation and sound deadener
  • Windows tinted
  • Original dash pad has minor wear, no cracks, very good condition
  • Original instrument pod has all working gauges, Autometer tach in original location
  • Rostra electronic cruise control
  • Steering wheel replaced with similar vintage smaller Toyota SR5 pickup wheel
  • 4 speed intermittent wiper control on-stalk integrated from 1986 Toy pickup
  • Metal dash repainted to dark grey comparable to exterior color
  • Working rear seat heater, rear window defroster
  • Replaced heater core, in/outlet tubing soldered to prevent leaks in 2018
  • Gear shift lever lock with separate key
  • All door seals and rear tailgate seals replaced with aftermarket dual seals
  • Carpet and headliner replaced with aftermarket grey SOR kits, original door panels sun visors, and interior molding all in very good condition
  • Original rear bench seat in good condition, covered with SOR “Tuff Duck” cordura seat covers
  • Custom rear cargo area has Oak plywood panels with multiple 12V sockets, “cubby” access for storage in body side cavities, removable platform on passenger side rear, w/Core Products tie-down track system, mounted to sidewalls and platform to secure all cargo
  • Oak platform that fits on floor with rear seat removed, creating additional storage space

Known issues:

  • Front of hood shows rock chipping commensurate with the mileage
  • Tailgate bottom has significant rust, but no perforation
  • Left rear wheel well and left passenger door have 1” dia perforating rust areas, some other small paint bubbling noticed
  • A/C has lost its charge
  • Transmission / t’case seal is starting to leak, moving fluid to t/case approx. 3tbsp / 5k miles
  • Rear bumper had poor OEM powder coat which is flaking off and has surface rust
  • Rock sliders have paint wear and surface rust
  • Original windshield replaced and rust repair performed around A-pillar by body shop, paint in area and front roof was touched up / blended
  • Cruise control lights up but is not working
  • Fuel gauge is not real accurate for true tank level (Toy truck sender in tank)

Was the H55f new and how many miles where on the motor when matted to the 5spd? How many miles are on them now? TT mileage?
Thanks John Looking for a good 60 with not a lot of rust issues.
 
Engine was a brand new crate motor (0 miles) when installed. The H55F with TC was an Australian import from Specter with unknown mileage, but very clean when rec'd. New H55F's were unavailable when I assembled this. I have run Redline MT-90 synthetic in both the trans and tc since it was installed. The motor and trans/tc have a little over 30K miles since installation.

I have no info on the trans / tc previous life, but I have had no issues in the 30K miles I've driven it.

Rust Areas: Photos unfortunately shot in the rain today. Black material is ZeroRust coating, applied when restoration was done back in 2007.
