I got offered some suspension seat frames. They are supposed to be from a BJ74 but I cant work out how I would fit them.

Obviously the base of the suspension seat bolts to the floor in different holes than the seat is currently bolted to.(Hopefully they are predrilled and under the carpet)

The seats in my 73 are on a floor that is higher around the transmission hump but the suspension frame seems to need seats with a flat base.

Am I missing a part that fits between my seats and the suspension base or do I need the appropriate seats that go with a suspension base frame??
I think the seats are supposed to bolt to where the 4 finger tight bolts are

They have surface rust but are complete and seem to be ok with all the controls working.
The one in the pic is RH

So the suspension seat frame wont fit beteeen the standard mounting points.
Just seems odd they would design a different floor.

The seller says they wont go into his HZJ75 troopy but they would fit his BJ73(stolen and unrecovered) or so he thought.

Thanks for that tip Wayne. I have been on the lookout for these bases...didnt know floors were different!! Wierd...

just to clarify,
we tried putting a seto f suspension seats from a BJ70 into a BJ74 and the floor did not accept the seats...
cheers

Anyone out there have a pic of their suspension seat mounted.

I can see the possibility of the 70 and 75 being different to a mwb but a 73 and a 74 being different??

Wayne see the bolt holes on the base, the seller says they sat on the floor of his BJ73 OK and it looked like it would work on mine . He was a cruiserhead and seemed genuine
I may have to remove a seat and see.
Although I still wont know how to mount the seat.
I thought this would be a straight bolt up:rolleyes:

This was the setup on my old BJ70.

Roscoe,

I have suspension seat in my FJ73.

They work absoloutely fine, however they are simply too lightweight for me:o (I'm 120kg, and the seats are only rated to 100kg).

They have a little play in them (they are not absoloutely tight), but they are still a comfy option for anyone at the right weight. They would look to be in the same condition as those in your photos.

I'll take some pics for you soon, and if they are a direct swap, I'd be happy to swap mine, for your static ones if this takes your fancy.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks a lot DW .It looks as if the seat has a different base. My seat has the leg room adjustment at the front while this one is at the side.
I may be able to swap parts but I dont know where to find them They were not a common option in oz and its unlikely anyone would want to break up a matching set.

Thanks for the offer but Im still not 100% its viable and I wish to retain the matching seats I have.

I think that it is actually the rib that crosses the tranny hump that is the difference, it is wider on the non suspension seat BJ74. But I could be wrong.
I sold a set of suspension bases to a guy that made the mods to the rib and mounted em in his 74. So it can be done.

I bought a midi that was a bj73 with the 3 seat setup. The tub was rusty so I bought a tub that was a bj74 tub with suspension bucket seat setup. I had to swap the seats I had for the suspension bucket seats. there was no way that they were going to interchange without some serious mod work to the floor. It wasnt worth the effort.
Cheers.
Dave.

please note, i never said it couldn't be done just that the floor was different, i never bothered to find out what would make them work...
i think Bruce has the proper front cross sitting on his shop floor...

But of course! you and I both know there is no such thing as CAN'T!!!

I have an RJ70 Bundera with standard for/aft sliding seats. I acquired another vehicle with suspension seats in it with the intention of cutting the floor out and welding it into the RJ70. On inspecting the body of the RJ70 I noted the the sub floor nuts and reinforcing (under body) was the same for each vehicle. all that needs to be done to allow the suspension seat bases to be mounted is to grind off the mounts for the regular sliding mounts and drill one hole in the floor wehere the underbody nut is located. and then you have factory suspension seat bases. I was very surprised when I found it myself, so get under your truck and have a look for yourself.

I have since confirmed this a on a mates FJ73 so have a look and we have just saved everyone a heap of work

cheers

...and the other more critical detail is the molded carpet for the non suspension "towers" must be resected (that is cut down, or removed).

the bottom frames of the seats are different as well, so more editing must be done to a seat base to make it fit suspension frame!!!!

floors are the same and I have some bases for my non suspesion seats when I get around to it.
