hi everyone..
i'm Rosman from Malaysia..
i have a LJ70 previously running 2LT engine and then upgraded to 5L + CT20 toyota turbo (upgraded turbo fin to garret)

i want to try for another bigger turbo :wrench:
which one do you recommend?

now i have CT26 or garret ar70 in my hand.
which one should i choose?

what is the purpose of the truck?
off road?
on road? if so at what speeds do you drive and what terrain?

CT26 is from a 7M or at 13B-T you would have to have the revs up and volume of air to make it work I do not see this working on a 5L engine what boost u wanna run and exhaust how u gonna Run the fuel You already runnying a aneroid to detect boost? From what I can see it will only come in late and too hard to be useful,

a 5L is not designed to be turboed it has smaller bearings and
d higher compression already it may not take much more boost or air into it.

this is the same for the PZ,HZ,2B,3B ... and they respond well and reliably to a turbo.

Hi,

The CT20 is a little small for the 5L. I note alot of the Australians try them on 5L engine and then upgrade, you can read on www.outerlimits4x4.com, do a search.

The 1kz is a 3.0litre and uses the CT12B turbo. I would say you would be better off using this turbo.

On the other hand, if you already have the CT26, try it out. Used on a 13Bt which is 3.4litres, so not too far put.

Ilove IH8MUD:bounce::bounce::bounce:!!!

I´m only in this sub forum because I saw a 3L and a 5L for sale last weekend and a club member is interested in doing exactly this swap. He has a an LJ70 with a 2L that he uses for his trail rig. He is unhappy with the 2l after years of pushing it and is interested in a swap. He was orginally looking for a 3L but when I told him about the 5L his interest really was fired. Neither he nor I know much about the differences between the 2L and the 5L. There is information out about the 2L but very little that we could find about the 5L.

Did you do a write up on the 2L to 5L swap? What transmission did you have behind the 2L and what are you using behind the 5L? What problems did you encounter? Sorry for the hijack but I just haven´t found much out there.

actually I found the 5L a bit lazy at lower rpm .. and maybe it's just the lacks of low end torque or the electronic gas pedal .. not sure ..

But the one that I'm positive it's about this engine working ar higher rpm range .. ( comparted to the 3L and 2L-T ) it drive nice and it's happy running 3K plus rpm ..

Anycase I would try first the CT12B ..

Whats the turbo on the 2l-t?
Is it the CT20?

I'm in a similar boat and swapping in a 5L from a 2LTE. Wondering if anyone found the secret sauce. Will my CT20 swap over to my 5L?

For longevity leave it normally 'exasperated' (aspirated).

Stay away from the old tech Toyota turbos. Look at Mitsubishi TD04L-13T (from many Subaru motors). That is used very successfully on 3L, 5L and 3B motors. Some Garret turbos might be okay in the GT20 to GT22 range.

Generally, I'd say If you want power, buy something with 1KD-FTV instead of 5L.
