Here again...
Well, as the subject header implies, I would like some ideas to help resolve some bump steer issues. The rig has a 4" Alcan spring lift, and a small shackle lift- guessing about five inches total lift. The axles have been shimmed to correct the castor, but the setup leaves a sharp drag link angle and some bumpsteer. There seems to be this grey area between the OME/shackle reversal lifts (4") and a spring over that isn't discussed too much. It seems the OME lifts are small enough not to have much steering effect, and the SOA runs high steer to deal with the issues. Would you mind helping me work out the options? Thanks in advance.

I drove my HJ60 for 5 - 6 years with 2.5" OME and SR kit .. oso I'm not really identificate with the bumpsteer problmems .. but anycase I thought SR solve or help to alleviate this issue ..

Other option for sure are the histeer setup for you ..

Hola David,
Gracias. Can you run a high steer setup with a sprung under vehicle? i was always under the impression that you couldn't. Yet, the more i think about it, the only issue would be the tie rod hitting the frame. Maybe its the small amount of lift usually associated with sprung under trucks that led to those statements and my impression.

Drop pitman arm is definetly an option ..

So I never notice about really bumpsteer that I really need to pay atention .. so 4x4 labs have some hi steer options for SU rigs ..

Also I never need a hi steer ( and off course never use ) when my rig was SU.

Drop pittman arm or just deal with it.

Not a hell of a lot of other options...

Spring under high steer??

You need quite a bit of lift for that..

I guess you could use the super flat steering arms that Rockstomper has..

i've got 4 1/2 alcan's with inch over shackles...about what iron giant's got.

here are some pics. all pro arms, 80 tre and ricebilt rods with 4x4 labs adapters.

awesome pictures, thanks. I am going to talk to Luke at 4x4labs and see what he thinks about running his high steer. The 60 is right hand drive so I will have to get custom arms made anyway, so perhaps they can be made a little flatter. Nuclearlemon, do you recall how much room you have between the tie rod and the frame at full flex?

It ever occur to you to extend your bumpstops???

:D

it has, but I wonder if the the use of the high steer and bigger bump stops is worth it at the expense up upward travel. It seems a flatter high steer arm may be the best of both worlds (steering and travel).
