Stupid Shock Question (2 Viewers)

I have some DT3000s that I am going to use to replace my existing 30 year ols 74 fj40 shocks. Here is my stupid question. Which end is up on the socks? Is it the skinny bar or the fat cylider that goes to the top bolt? Just thought I would put that out there. Thanks a ton.

Fat end up.

The stamped lettering on the shock body always goes right side up. If you run them upsidedown they won't work properly.

I thought everything but the edelbrocks went shock cylinder down.

I thought on some shocks it didn't matter. My Skyjackers are cylinder down, no issues. ???

the DT3000's go shock body down, shaft up. This comes straight from Doetsch.

My Pro Comps are cylinder down with no problems.

I have been running my DT body up with no issues. I read on Dt page that their shocks will work properly in either direction, although I can't put my hands on the article right now.

I was always told the seals wouldn't last if installed upside down.

I did see a footnote on the applications page...

E.) Due to inconsistent factory mounting location – Doetsch shock absorbers may need to be installed rod-end down to avoid rubbing of rear axle.

I take this as, they can be run inverted without issue.

I run my fronts body up and the rears body down....

IMO, it doesn't matter. I prefer body-up to reduce unsprung weight...
(slightly, but every little bit helps)

It does make the shock shaft more venerable to getting pitted from debris, which will take out the seals...so it's not really BS..
