First post with my new login credentials. I just picked up a 03 100 series and I'm working on fixing/replacing a few minor issues. One issue is the rear cup holder tray is stuck closed (I think). I search for a solution with no luck. Push the face and it should pop open...right? It looks like it might be pushed into the console too far by the PO. I tried gently prying open the tray with no luck. I removed the screws around the console hoping I can gain access but I think there are additional screws inside the cup holder tray area so it's not budging. Any ideas on how to get this baby open? Thanks.

Mine did the same thing and I think it was also gummed up with old soft drink sugar.

I took a small screw driver and a garage rag so it wouldn't damage anything while I pryed it open. I was a bit afraid I'd break it but it popped open.

I cleaned it out really good and sprayed it with silicone spray. It works really good now but will occasionally jam back up. Most of the time I can open it without prying it open.

I had an apple core jammed in mine. Had to wait a week for it to shrivel enough to get the damn thing open! Push in to release the detent then coax it open with as much force as you're comfortable with, it's a pretty solid mechanism.

Update: I tried the hot water trick and was successfull, however it was not pop funk. After some prying on both sides with plastic mini prybars, I was able to pop loose the tray. Ended up being a wedged pencil in the cup holder. It's all good now. Thanks again for the suggestions. Doug

I'm glad I found this thread - my rear cupholder was jammed so badly I thought it was an option that didn't come with my vehicle! Candy wrappers. 2 hands full of them. :-) Works great. Now I can dremel out that holder on the underside of the center arm rest.

Just as a future heads up, the front cup holder can get really gunked up also over time with the lid sticking shut. Take out the front center console, the part around the shifter, it's not too hard. You will then have total access to clean the front cup holder, the mechanism and all the crud that has spilled and dropped in there along with the carpet in the past 11 years.
