here's the rest of the river crossing shots
first: the setup

ok, made it across the river with no troubles (and no pics), but about 3 feet up the other bank... nada

here's looking back at the river (still very stuck)

at this point, I was actually driving (note the slack winch line) but having some trouble getting out of the rut (note the front tire)

homage to the rut

like most good stucks-- the river that we were worried about proved to be pretty easy. The part that really got my attention, we didn't even think it would be a problem at all...
Here's a shot of my scouting/recovery team up ahead, looking at the "hard" part of the trail. I was just driving up casually-- "No worries, just stay to the left. Easy." Note the stick on the right hand side of the "puddle"

Well.... the trail didn't *want* me to stick to the left. And as the wall crumbled away beneath me, I tried to drive into it a little to get more level, but it just kept getting deeper, so I stopped. Again, note the stick...

"Um, guys!"
"Could you hurry up the winch line a little bit? It's getting pretty wet in here."

this was, of course, the EDIC-ending moment. Fortunately, the truck ran fine, just a little rich, until we got to the beach.
(you can read more about the EDIC woes and repair here https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=112046 )

ok, winch hooked up...
"gently. gently."

It took a little while (the bottom of the hole was 18 inches of goo), but once we got level, it was no big deal

Needless to say, we were a little more careful checking the depth afterwards :)

Awesome dude .. pretty much time I didn't get some pretty nice stuck as yours . :D

I love offroad in our sticky muddy road .. ( road ? .. naaaa just a trail .. )

I'll be posting up a little more story with more pictures soon, will include a link.

One of the most interesting things: This whole trail is actually on the map as a road. Granted, it is not marked as an all-season road, but during the summer (dry) months, the whole thing is passable in a 2wd car. Needless to say, it's going to take a little bit of grading to make it work next summer. :)

Your scout's not bad either. What's your secret for having her wade through the leech farm while you listen to credence with the AC cranked?

Looks like Caly didn't want to help. :D

She was more interested in swimming across the river for the umpteenth time. We found a great new strategy, incidentally. When we came upon a body of water, we'd send her across (she learned the "other side" command at our local estuary, very handy). She's just the right size that if she can wade across we know it is about hub-high. If she has to swim, then we've got to investigate more.

I have no idea how this worked out, but I'm respecting the age-old wisdom: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" ;)

Tapage, I think he´s talking about the dog right there... :grinpimp:

Ha!

I've gotta send this to my wife.

LCHJ60 is right: we send the dog across. My lovely wife sometimes volunteers to wade through the muck, especially if she is sick of setting up the winch line and wants us to hurry up to get to the beach.

I think this is more of a mud into truck than truck into mud, I'm sure if he could actually get in he could drive out but then again maybe not it's not a Yota:D

Just thought I'd revive this thread- winter is upon us and so should be the soft stuff that we hate...

let 'er rip!
