1980 FJ40 and I have a strong fuel smell inside the car to include the following:
  • Strong Vapor push when I undue the gas cap
  • Sputtering when I turn off the ignition
Not sure if it's a carb adjustment (Weber 38), need a vented gas cap or check the charcoal canister? Any help would be appreciated as always.

Thank You

When I had the strong smell in the cab I noticed that one of the return vapour line hoses had snapped off - leaving all the vapours to nicely enter the cab freely.

Check that for sure, but also make sure the fuel tank doesn't have a bunch of pinhole leaks on the bottom----

I don't know about the Weber, per se, but I am having the same problem (raw gas smell) since I rebuilt my Holley (no pieces left over). The Holley experts tell me chances are good it is a blown power valve, so I am tearing down and replacing it this weekend. Might be something to think about if you have had any backfires.
