The large phillips head screw that holds the rear drum brake is stripped and not coming loose. should i just bite the bullet and try to drill it out. i've PBblasted the heck out of it.

If you can get your hands on an impact screwdriver, you could give that a try. I get really nervous when I go to remove that screw for the very same reason. That would be a good place to use some anti-seize when you put it all back together.

x2 on the impact driver--the kind that you use with a hammer. I think the key here is to use the correct sized screwdriver.

Which screw is it that you are talking about? The one that holds the drum on over the shoes? <confused>

i think that is right...it is on the outisde of the drum...i believe it holding the drum on.

i attempted the pneumatic drill with no luck. it is getting deeper and deeper and i've got a turd for a paddle.

If all else fails, get your Dremel out and grind away the head of the screw. Then, at least you can get the drum off (assuming that you know how to adjust the shoes away from the drum). Once you get the drum off, you may have enough of a stub that you can use heat and vice grips to remove what's left of the screw.

I would hit it with a cold chisel and a sledge.. Pop the head off and grind the offending bolt flat..

As Goodwin said, it is not necessary..
