OK guys and gals, i still have a gift certificate from christmas for sears. I was planning on picking up a chase/die kit. But once i got in there, there were several to choose from and the price range started at $35 and steadily increased to over $100 for a kit. Problem is i don't know which kit i need. I have never used a thread chaser, or a die kit before so how do i now which size to use? For example, the cheaper kit started at 5mm and went to 10mm. The more expensive kit had 5mm up to 13mm. Should i assume that if i use a 14mm socket for the nut then that's what size chase i need?

Thanks for help and suggestions. I want to fix these threads.

The threads are 10x1.00mm. A fine thread like that is not likely to be in an "entry level" set.

Clean up the threads with a rethreading die. You should be able to find one at a halfway decent hardware store and most any industrial supplier. This repair should be quite sufficient until you feel like replacing the studs. When you replace the studs, be sure to also replace the nuts, they are probably also knackered.

If the above doesn't do the job then you have to do what CDan is saying. Even if you find after market bolts and nuts, you still have take out the TCase. Now if this is you front drive shaft then I am assuming you only need to take out the front housing. Here's a link to the tcase breakdown from the FSM http://home.comcast.net/~gaffarr/frntexthsngcomp.pdf
Hope this helps.

whoah! and I thought 10x1.25mm were a pain to find...

Jawco makes the rethreading dies for everybody, they show the 10x1.00mm as an "extra" die, only included in the master and fine thread kits. The part number is MD10A , it's going to be hard to find separately in normal stores. Try calling them they may refer you to a local source, or sell you one. It's a inexpensive tool, in the $2 range.

Thanks Tools. I'll see what i can do tomorrow.

I see rethreading dies at http://www.mcmaster.com/ for $10, adjustable threading die for $50. If you can get one for $2 that'd be the way to go. I have an unused M10x1 I'd happily loan you, but it'd cost nearly as much to mail it back & forth as buying one. That was why I wondered where you live, I was hoping for Cadillac Michigan.

If this fails you could turn the shaft 45-degrees, tap (thread) new holes in the output flange, and run bolts from the driveshaft side into the flange. The flange looks like a high-grade, machined steel, it should make excellent threads. There are plenty of options here.
