No, not Zebra stripes

Were there some factory stripes on 40's like the 60's? I like the red/yellow/white toyota racing stripes etc. I am looking for some sort of vintage looking stripe that would look decent with my Surf blue paint :D

My idea right now is a fading red, yellow, 1.5-2in wide from back to front and up over the hood. Something like the old Broncos had. Did Toyota offer anything like this?

Not factory, but many dealers added stripes. Superstripes, whatever, there were many vendors. I'm sure there a plenty of old school photos out there with these tape striped wonders. Ultra pain in the ass when it comes to repaint.

Really? Not factory? Good. I think they are pretty ugly. Stripes on a 40...

yes there was some kind of stripes on the

83-84 fj40 Saudi Arabia
81-82 bj41 in japan
stripe (Medium).webp

I remember seeing graphics like this on White, Dune Beige, Green, Blue and the Mustard cruiser's,
My 77 smurf blue 40 did not have any,We bought it in "78" this being a popular Striping in the late 70s until the early 1980s FJ40s & FJ60s as well.....Dusty 66

Bummer is that I dont have a hard top, you would only see about 1/3 of them LOL

I was thinking something like this: 2nd picture down... except paint insted of decal, and one single detail insted of 2.

I've been flipping through my "Brookland's Road Tests" copy of Toyota Land Cruiser 1956-1984 - a collection of magazine artcles from various sources all over the world.

There are only two vehicles with striping on them - a customized early '70's 40 with an aftermarket paint job, and a South African 45 pickup with a solid tailgate-to-rear-of-hood body stripe and "TOYOTA" on the doors. From this small sampling, it doesn't look like there were factory stripes, but the '70's was the era of let-the-stickers-do-the-selling - case in point, the Trans Am firebird. Possibly factory made to be added by dealers?

Proabably worth a call to Specter Off Road - If Marv Specter doesn't know, nobody does.

I vote for blue flames on the front. Sweet.

I remember this thread so I snapped a picture this summer.... the 40 looked vintage 70s I just recall seeing Quit a few at the Dealers lot with this type of graphics..

If people would and could get me any good photos I would be willing to work on reproducing them. I do vehicle graphics all the time and had considered doing some for my current restoration project. If there is someone out there with a real interest please contact me I would be willing to offer my design and production services to someone willing to put my prototype decals onto there 40. guys let me know, Richard
