I am planning on going. I was just going to show up at the meeting point.

Something weird is going on with their forum. It won't let me register so I can respond to the post that I am attending. I did see that Scoops86 had responded though.

Forum? Register? Where?

Gee, it's not like you don't have two other GIANT 4x4s to use for this trip :flipoff2:
3 others but whose counting...
It's the behind schedule part that is killing me and this warm weather is not helping my feeling of falling behind.

Let me know if you are able to register. I still can't get the registration link to work that the site sent to me when I tried to register. And it won't let me manually do it either.

Scoops86, since you're already registered, can you give Fleg a heads-up that there are likely to be a few vehicles from HDC there as well?

Not able to register either.

I posted a heads up about you guys going and the registering problems.

Thanks, I also have been in e-mail contact with the site guy too.

This sounds cool! Susan and I would like to join you guys.

I think this will be a nice, mellow trip for y'all. The weather should be warm. Wish I could join you but my daughter has a weekly Saturday thing she goes to and it's no fun wheeling w/o her!

Wow, looks like one heck of a turn out with 25 rigs! Bummed that I missed it.

The group size was pretty ridiculous. It truly was about 25 vehicles. I kept losing count when I was attempting to go down the line. Tons of Jeep Wranglers, a couple F-series pickups, James Bingham and Alex in their 40 and mini-truck. Vince in his 80. There was a stock diesel Liberty that was a neat novelty. There was a lifted Explorer. The trail leader had a pretty nice mid 70's Cherokee/Wagoneer thing.

It was a fun trip! Looks like alot of country to explore!

Vince

I think we need to do this with our own little group.

I would have enjoyed it much more if it had been just HDC folks. Another thing that I thought would be really fun would be to make a loop. Go out north, heading west from 550 about 15 north of San Ysidro. There is a paved road (279) that heads to San Luis/Cabezon/Torreon. That road turns to dirt and 279 is the road that goes right past the ruins. There is some really neat geology, even though it seems very barren there. I would continue south on 279 which goes between Mesa Prieta to the east and the Mt. Taylor area to the west. 279 looks like it comes out near Laguna Pueblo. Or, maybe run it the opposite way and make a small detour to Cuba in the evening for dinner at El Bruno's.

The entire route could be driven in a 2wd sedan. But, given enough time to explore, there are some less maintained roads that cut off many times that might lead to some more interesting travel. I think it would be neat to try to get up on top of Mesa Prieta just to see the view from it. The vegetation on the tops of those mesas around there looked like pinon-juniper typical of the 6000 - 7000 feet elevation around here while the valleys were typical sagebrush/saltbush/salt cedar. I need to offload my photos and I'll post a few.

I like the idea of going back with a smaller group. maybe an over-nighter at that.

:hhmm:

We went on some nice trail rides last fall and even a few overnighters all by ourselves:frown:

I was beginning to think you liked the Jeep guys better than us:D

Getting this group out wheeling/camping has been a challenge at best, this past year :frown:

I'd like to see that change this year.

I see the nmoffroad guys have a run to Monticello canyon in March.

If you haven't done that in the past it is well worth it. Nothing terrible but a very pretty trail that crosses the water several times. I like to spend the night at the lake and then make the run.
