Afternoon all,

Recently purchased a set of 4 stock 16" LX rims and am looking for some lesser expensive "road" tires so I don't ware out the Baja M/T's too fast...

Has anyone had or heard of any success with Walmart's Travelstar EcoPath A/T tires? They offer a 50k mile warranty and seem to have great reviews.. Might have just found a diamond! But seems to good to be true! Check the link.

Any advice on what tires to purchase for light on/off road use.. I would love some BFG's or more Mickey's but that's not in the budget at the moment and we have a ton of road trips coming up this summer that'll be more highway than off road. Any input (including sarcasm) is appreciated.

Do you really drive so much you don't want to wear out your baja tires? They're not stickies and mounting another set of tires is lame and makes your rig looks more grocery-wagon esque

those tires will be small and lame and you should be sad

I recommend Maxxis trepadors for on-road use

@nukegoat Okay, now THOSE are sick! And I didn't realize they'd be so inexpensive on Ebay. Yes - I do drive a lot, maybe 15-20k miles a year on average and like to get off the pavement every other weekend and take the wife and dogs somewhere. It does make an excellent grocery wagon though ;)

I'm still trying to learn all I can about tires and wheels etc. so please enlighten me as to how the Walmart knock offs would look too small.. My current tires are 285/75r16 Mickey Thompson's, so the 285 vs 265 would be the width of the tire/rim? If so, I think I see your point; especially going from a mud terrain to an all terrain.

My plan is to have two sets of shoes for the LX.. one for daily driving and the other for off-road and trips.

@bamabrock I've been searching the last few weeks for take-off's but all I find are ones that're worn out/over priced and/or not the right size.

i have similar mileage per year but use a cheap econo car to commute and lx is only for weekend adventure duty.. 20k in gas will not be fun.

Just an option.

Falken at3’s are super inexpensive for what you get. LT285/75R16 would be under $600

Sorry I don't have any insight on the Travelstar but in general tires are the last thing you want to save money on. A slightly used set of reputable tires (MIcheline, BFG, Cooper, Conti etc. etc.) would probably cost the same but would be better in everyway.

I have to agree with this at least in general terms. I have a 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT that I bought pretty much new. When I went to replace the tires I bought a set of 4 from Wal-Mart for like $280 for the set. They got good reviews and they got me back on the road but man what pieces of crap. They were chunking off, one of them got a bubble in the sidewall. Two of them blew on the smallest of small potholes (barely felt the potholes). And when they failed I wasn't near a Wal-Mart for a warranty repair. Had to buy tires at Discount or Les Schwab.

Also if you get tires at Wal-Mart and ever need anything be prepared for it to be a minimum 4 hour wait.

Just a heads up. Don't know how these tires you're talking about compare but I would not buy their no name tires again.

Noted! Thank you for sharing your experience!
